Reagan fucked over Israel hard by selling AWACs to Saudi Arabia, directly contradicting US policy established in the early 70s of making sure that Israel had a Qualitative Military Edge over any other Arab state. Reagan also threatened to pull US aid from Israel because the Israelis were working on the Lavi fighter jet which would have directly competed with the US sale of F16s. The Israelis are still suffering from this decision to this day because the US F15/F16s/F35s are not fit for purpose for Israeli operational needs. The Israelis have to receive the planes and essentially do a complete teardown and rebuild of the whole plane to make it fit their purposes.
The issue with that is that the US didn't openly support Israel until the mid 60s at the earliest. The state of Israel was recognized but the US policy was to remain neutral. There was an arms blockade on Israel until 1962. Ironically enough, Kennedy founded the US Israeli military alliance and sold defensive weapons to Israel but also countered the sale of these weapons by selling them to Egypt and Jordan as well. Kennedy was also the first to introduce the concept of a "special relationship" between the US and Israel.
