Honestly, the new mechanics took me a bit to adjust to, but it's all the weird L2+ moves I cba learning. I am a lazy gamer.
It's not just me who isn't bothered at all by it? Being online convinces me everyone thinks this is the best game ever made.
as the worlds most devoted FROM Software acolyte.. Nightreign is fun, but flawed.
its fun to have bite size power scaling Souls adventures, it however, is flawed in that the map is small, doesn't have enough variance (there isn't randomization but just handful of seeds) and some potential encounters/camps are leagues harder than others for the same reward.
the various characters are fun an different, but there is a notable stinker, the BIRD MAN, who while "fun" is 2 power scaling tiers below literally everyone else.
the addition of Deep Dives or w/e the hardmode is added a ton of variance to the game which it needed, and a ton more customization, and the new little expac added a ton more.
some of the bosses are some of the best boss spectacles I've ever seen, visually, musically and all that, including the Final Boss who has one of the best tracks in the series. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RIyqbsKxRsE
the game feels more like a love letter to the entire "souls" franchise, while also an asset mash, however they aren't that cheap.. Artorias got a whole new remade fight with a second phase for instance, however fights like the Nameless king show their age.. what was once a pretty hard super boss, is now a joke, because he didn't get changed at all.
is it worth the price? eh for me it is because I'm FROM's greatest soldier, but buy it on a small sale, you'll absolutely get a hundred hours out of it.
Nightreign is extremely fun, which sucks because everyone wrote it off before launch all because it had a shrinking storm like in Fortnite or something. The lack of variety does get repetitive after a couple hundred hours, but the release of the DLC map also made it really obvious just how much of the fun in the game came from memorizing the base game's map and optimizing your route as much as possible to acquire as much runes and loot as possible before day 3. In that regard, the first few days of playing the DLC map were extremely confusing because it's a): a brand new map with almost no relation to the base game's very standardized and at this point fully memorized map and b): much more convoluted, compact, and vertical, which makes it even harder to learn. This is certainly a more fun experience than even I was expecting; I haven't even seen everything in the base game yet - shit's been VERY busy on my end - but this is honestly one of the more "fun" Soulslikes that I've played. The smaller scale certainly works, though I agree the lack of variation can make things get a bit dull; I'd recommend that the devs try to add more overall variation to the world later on down the line.
Have you tried Raider yet? No hate towards birdman (there are frankly not enough birbs and too many Wylders/Undertakers), but if you like the tanky moveset, Raider has a lot of that while still being very DPS oriented. The weirdest part of all of this? The aforementioned bird man, the Guardian, is both my main and the character I've had the most fun AND success with so far. Seriously, the overgrown chicken is weak compared to everyone else, but something about him just *clicks*; probably because his tankier set and shield focus works well with my preferred playstyle in other Souls games.
Executor is my vote for the actual weakest character in the game, ESPECIALLY now that Scholar fills the niche he did and does a ton of other useful shit on top of that. Executor is in a weird spot where he's neither fish nor fowl. Despite being a melee oriented character, he actually does less damage with DEX weapons than Ironeye (yes, the guy whose specialty is bows!) does. His passive skill is basically useless outside of you being lucky enough to find Seppuku on a random katana in a run; his ability is, while fun, fundamentally flawed from the standpoint of his character role (made worse by the fact that Suncatcher doesn't actually scale with anything, so its damage output just becomes worse and worse the higher you level); and his ultimate is just not enough to make up for his completely mediocre damage output.Conversely, I've had a ton of issues adapting to the other characters - I beat Sekiro, and I couldn't wrap my head around the Executioner, for instance.
New DLC added a relic to the collectors board with an effect which sets his stats to 53 str and 53 dex (from 41/31) at the cost of 160 hp. Meaning that you'll be dealing more damage than Wylder and possibly even Raider. Guardian's main power comes from guard counters, which are hard to pull off in group fights funnily enough. So with this relic you can make up for it and focus more on consistent damage. I also want to play around with that whirlwind on charged attacks relic, since it also does additional poise damage on top of existing ones for halberds. Guardian now is in a far better shape than he used to be, but he is just still very much relics dependent.Seriously, the overgrown chicken is weak compared to everyone else

People hated on it without having any understanding on what the actual gameplay mechanics were centered around which is pretty embarrassing in hindsight. The game is well designed and fun, even if it’s minimal in terms of content.Even on this site, there was practically an entire thread dedicated towards hating Nightreign before launch; now look. The game's doing just fine, and all these kiddies look even more immature.
The guys who try to aura farm while parrying are the funniest because I’m always counting down the seconds until they fumble and get oneshot. It’s just a weirdly placed mechanic that doesn’t really help the character in any meaningful way. With an Exe, you're either going to get complete noobs, edgelords, or parry gods. Sometimes the occasional furry
Usually yes, but the DLC adds Sovereign shop relics that have those effects on regular relics, plus an additional two stat buffs. They’re actually kind of crazy if you think about it; some of them have, let’s say, improves STR and reduces DEX, but then it’ll also have +3 STR and +3 DEX anyways so it almost neuters the downside of running the relic. I need to experiment more with them.Aren't the stat relics only usable in Depth of Night? Haven't been able to go for them yet myself; like I said, things are extra busy on my end.

I think you have to beat some DLC bosses to unlock them though. Not sure if it’s just Balancers or also Dreglord.I'll have to try and grab them when I hop back on, then; sounds like a good investment for my Guardian.
It took me way too long to realize just how little Miyazaki actually gives a shit about storytelling and consistency: the Radahn and Miquella shit came out of fucking nowhere with no foreshadowing in the base game and yet the "loremasters" are still trying to justify it as if it was planned the entire time and how Miyazaki is actually a genius. So far almost nothing those lore fags said turned out to be true. They all suffer from terminal creator worship and thinking that just because some areas have environmental story telling, then every single item must be placed for a reason and every plot point must tie back to sone sentence an NPC said. Gwyn's rebel son is probably the best example of it.
Average matchmaking with randos experience, seriously every game is like that. I've said this before I think but the collective IQ of multiplayer video games (well the internet, but details) has fallen off a cliff that so many sub-60 IQ retards now have access to the internet and a way to play games with other people, hell even paywalling multiplayer on consoles did nothing to stem the flow of fuckery.Nightreign matchmaking is fucking awful. Every person I've matched up with is a complete retard and I still haven't beaten the first nightlord of the DLC.
Intelligence too because an intelligent person would realize beforehand he would be killing himself by taking these experimental, body destroying medications to transition into being a moid. Wisdom as well because a wise person would realize that no matter how hard they tried, they'll never be a woman. Faith would be maxed out, not because they're religious (quite the opposite), but because they have faith that they'll pass and faith in themselves that they're not making a terrible mistake.MtF tranny class change basically sets your STR, DEX, VIG, etc to 1

well they don't, not Radagon/Marika, they are separate beings, she isn't "becoming" him or vice versa, they are two different people, Marika needed to become the Divine Hermaphrodite or Rebus to complete the Magnum Opus , as most of the backstory shit in Elden Ring is based on Alchemy.Tbf trannies would fit perfectly into various cults and religions in Fromsoft settings. Marika/Radagon, Godrick, Gwyndolin...
Honestly, I'm 50/50 on this being a tranny or a typical case of GOTISI watched the stream a bit more and yeah during gameplay it's very apparent that his voice is a show. It slips pretty often still. I don't want the dude to neck himself because he does make good content. He should have just been more honest.
I disagree with Nioh being included just because it's a souls-like, seriously why? And Sekiro being a rhythm game? That's...wha? Also you placed DS2 up so high that even I, a DS2fag, thinks that's excessive. This rating list is, uh..."unique."Since nobody asked for it, here is my officially sanctioned by Tanimura Souls tier list:
Demon's Souls (OG) -> Nioh 1 -> DS 2 -> Bloodborne -> Sekiro -> Elden Ring -> DS 1 -> DS 3
And just to add something in case someone wants to talk about it:
Demon's Souls: Only a highly flawed game has the potential to reach the highest heights. Cobbled together mess of a failed project with a kitchen sink approach. Lighting in a bottle.
Nioh 1 : Don't give a shit if it's not FromSoft. Been there right from the first alpha to the finished product. Exhilarating, brutal, and just a barrage of all things Japanese.
DS 2 : Quite the flawed game that never would have lived up to the sudden success of DS 1. Tried the impossible balance of retaining elements from Demons and Dark Souls whilst incorporating new ideas.
Bloodborne: Probably the most streamlined Souls game, which is both a good and bad thing.
Sekiro: Turning the game that FromSoft have been remaking for years into a rhythm game was quite fun and refreshing. The Japanese setting was a nice bonus.
ER: Still a fun and good game, but Souls fatigue hampered my enjoyment a bit.
DS1: The start to Pikachu and Snorlax is just impeccable stuff. After that, the quality just takes a nosedive.
DS3: Member DS1 ? Member trying to salvage this mess into a game that can be sold ?
It's an old /v/ meme that's been parroted to death. Apparently pressing buttons in reaction to prompts on a screen = rhythm game. And Sekiro being a rhythm game?
I assumed the whole reason Malenia waged war with Radahn was because Miquella was scheming for a nice consort and Radahn thought that shit was gay.It took me way too long to realize just how little Miyazaki actually gives a shit about storytelling and consistency: the Radahn and Miquella shit came out of fucking nowhere with no foreshadowing in the base game
Its because a lot of enemies have such obvious attack patterns that once you learn the "rhythm" it trivializes the game. The big glowing prompts telling you to dodge are a different thing entirely, but mock worthy all the same. It's an old /v/ meme that's been parroted to death. Apparently pressing buttons in reaction to prompts on a screen = rhythm game.
