Hey, it's good to get more context. It's very difficult to find actually neutral sources. Usually you have to read something from both sides to get a fuzzily accurate view. What's SST and who is TTG?

Shutting down self sufficient nuclear plants to rely entirely on russian gas was however. Any step taken to make your country more reliant on outsiders is insanely retarded to the point of treason, especially with a source as safe, clean and efficient as nuclear.
Germany more or less gave away their long term infinite energy glitch to haggle over pennies in the short term.

- Being largely energy self-sufficient through a good nuclear baseline and supplementing from countries you trade with.
- Being largely energy dependent on countries you trade with.

SST (Sic Semper Tyrannis) was Pat Lang's ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W._Patrick_Lang ) old blog. The Wikipedo page is pretty decent really for a rundown of who he was. But the short version is that Pat was a VERY serious man in the HUMINT world and an exceptional Special Forces/Intelligence Officer & Operative during Vietnam.
There looks to be a reasonably healthy archive of the old site on wayback - https://web.archive.org/web/20051001000000*/turcopolier.typepad.com - not only was his blog possibly the best website I had ever stumbled on, it was the quality of the comment section that kept me going back every day to see what comments had been approved. Pat's moderation/approval of the comments section was (on posts that he alone had wrote) that he would manually review each and every comment and decide whether to publish them. His criteria was quite simple- does the comment either a) add to the discussion at hand in a meaningful way? or b) ask a not stupid question that could steer the discussion or comment sub threads in an interesting direction? When a guest would author a post they would work with Pat on the approval process. I remember Pat regularly lamenting that the comment section was NOT a place to ask stupid "101" level questions and that SST's discussion was to take place at the "501". Occasionally he would approve some of these 101 level questions and point that commenter to a post or comment thread in the sites archive. It's hard to overstate just how insightful and varied the comments section could be. A lot of the regular commenters and authors would be people from all over the world who were just as accomplished as Pat in their own fields. It was not surprising for example, when discussing something to do with Pakistan, to have serious and capable old hands from ISI putting in effort posts that put the farms to shame or when discussing some virus or illness to have high level people from some country or others Health Ministry posting at length on the topic. He also would mention on occasion that he wished to conduct his blog in a manner paying a homage of sorts to the Salon of old.
The site moved to the domain turcopolier.com at some point following a bunch of fuckery from wordpress. There was also a brief period where Pat tried unsuccessfully to use Disquss but soon dropped it after realising that they were pre-censoring comments.
Following Pat's death in 2023 the reigns for SST were passed on to a user by the name of "The Twisted Genius", TTG for short. He was born to Lithuanian immigrant parents (take note as this will matter in a few sentences time). From what I can garner TTG comes from the SIGINT world, specifically that of the Cold War (70's, 80's). He would allude to these kinds of things in some of his posts and comments and Pat would very rarely call him out on the veracity of what he was saying. On the other hand, if a commenter claimed something (especially something to do with the military or war) and Pat sensed that they were bullshiting he would call them out on it.
The issue with TTG, and what drove a lot of commenters away, is his absolute hatred for Russians and Russia itself. And without Pat to moderate/temper him when the SMO began SST became just another blog that would uncritically repost ISW papers and DeepCope maps.
I've also attached a copy of "Drinking the Kool-Aid" which should be mandatory reading for anyone with a passing interest in the 2003 Iraq War.

Legitimizing permanently freezing another countrys assets because of a conflict is a bad move.
Next time EU tries some shit like stealing/nationalizing a chineese company, china would have a new weapon to retailate. Instead of just temporarily blocking strategic exports they could just freeze all financial assets EuroClear has in china.
If you legitimize this, you are giving every trading party a new weapon to use against you in any dispute.
And if you complain they can just point to your legal reasoning here to why them freezing your assets is completely kosher regarding "international law".

The latter ended a short-lived reversal of German nuclear policy which was supposed to stop/delay the (first) nuclear phase-out.
Merkel relying on anti-nuclear parties (SocDems and Greens) is what doomed German nuclear power.

I always thought that it was weird for Zelensky to be so close to the LOC especially with how recent the advance in that area was. I feel as though they recorded this a bit before the Russians took it a few months back or even last year but didn't bother to release it for some reason. Either that or they decided to only repair a portion of the sign and netting for... reasons?

Apart from the fact that the UK military just plain isn’t up to the task, a war against Russia would be fascinating in that the UK will somehow have to drum up support from the most demoralized population ever seen. I don’t think there is any comparable historical analogy, and it would normally be the type of decision that ends up with a violent revolution in which the entire UK government is sent to the guillotine but I wouldn’t hold out hope that a people as cucked as the Brits would actually do anything.

The funny thing is, I can get people being anti-Russian. Understandable, even, given their sordid history of authoritarianism and imperialistic bent under the guise of the USSR. It also makes them a convenient scapegoat. At some point, however, it really becomes cope when things like your own countries' politician selling you out is also because MUH PUTLER IS FUNDING THEM or something to that effect. Even more hilarious when you get unironic Cold War retards who still think Russia is the Great Enemy BECAUSE I SAID SO.

Not really, Sweden also had a pretty bad spat of poverty and famine in the 19th century which killed a lot of Swedes even without the excuse of the constant politlical chaos making the Russian empire a basketcase at the same time. The Finns were fucked regardless. Neither Sweden nor Russia were in any state to care for the region.

Are you saying the Swedish king treated them badly, forced them to learn and speak Swedish (at least in the coastal regions where the king's cannon-boats could encourage swedish culture and language) except for the dissidents in east finland that refused to use the language and culture of their rightful capital and leaders, and claimed they were oppressed?
And eventually Russia stepped in and liberated them?
I have heard that story before but that time they wanted the land russia liberated to be returned to its rightful owners.
I am confused. Why not return this land to its rightful owner too?
