The Women’s Institute has banned transgender women from being members. The National Federation of Women’s Institutes (NFWI) revealed on Wednesday it can no longer legally offer formal membership to transgender women from April next year in light of the Supreme Court judgment. The Supreme Court ruled this April that the legal definition of a woman under the Equality Act was based on biological sex, not preferred gender identity. Melissa Green, the chief executive of the Women’s Institute, said: “It is with the utmost regret and sadness that we must announce that, from April 2026, we can no longer offer formal membership to transgender women.”

She added: “We will bring forward programmes to continue to extend fellowship, sisterhood and support to transgender women.” Bridget Phillipson, the women and equalities minister, has been accused of deliberately delaying guidance by the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC), the UK’s equality watchdog. The new guidance reportedly would mean that trans people could be asked whether they should be accessing single-sex services based on their physical appearance. NHS trusts, councils and businesses have continued to allow trans women to use female-only facilities despite the Supreme Court ruling. Since then service providers have been left in limbo as they wait for updated guidance from the EHRC to be published before introducing any changes in public venues.

‘No other choice’

Ms Green said: “It is with the utmost regret and sadness that we must announce that, from April 2026, we can no longer offer formal membership to transgender women. “As an organisation that has proudly welcomed transgender women into our membership for more than 40 years, this is not something we would do unless we felt that we had no other choice.”

She said the future of the charity relied on acting on the Supreme Court’s judgment. “To be able to continue operating as the Women’s Institute – a legally recognised women’s organisation and charity – we must act in accordance with the Supreme Court’s judgment and restrict formal membership to biological women only. “However, this change is only in respect to our membership policy and does not change our firm belief that transgender women are women.”

Continued ‘sisterhood’ with trans women

A statement added that since the Supreme Court ruling, the organisation had been working with legal advisors to understand its impact and how it needed to respond in order to “maintain our sisterhood with transgender women”. It said it had “explored all options available to us before making any changes”. The Women’s Institute said although it is still awaiting the formal EHRC guidance, “we have done our due diligence as an organisation and taken independent legal advice”. “We also owe it to our members to be upfront and honest with them about the issues that might affect them, so we wanted to inform them as soon as we could.

“We also want to ensure that while our legal change is clear, our intention to maintain our sisterhood with transgender women is equally clear.” The Women’s Institute is the UK’s largest women’s membership organisation. It has campaigned nationally women’s issues and offered self-development opportunities for women since 1915. The NFWI is the Women’s Institute’s umbrella organisation. Although a spokesman for the Women’s Institute said that while they would no longer offer transgender women formal memberships from, it would be working with its current transgender members “to support them and to clarify the details of our new membership policy”.

‘Other charities’ for trans women

Girlguiding bosses said on Tuesday the organisation had made “the difficult decision” to stop biological boys from becoming members. Helen Joyce, the director of advocacy for the campaign group Sex Matters, said there were plenty of other charities offering support for transgender people. She added: “Just a day after Girlguiding accepted that its charitable mission was focused on girls, not boys who say they are girls, Women’s Institute has followed suit and will exclude men who say they are women from its membership.

“If women – or men – want to join mixed-sex groups, there are plenty available. There are also plenty of charities that solely serve trans-identifying people. “What is distinctive about single-sex groups is obviously lost if people of the opposite sex are admitted. A group set up for women must be able to keep out all men, even the ones who are very insistent that they feel like women.

Yes. Stop playing their game, stop using their language. A "trans woman" is pure fiction, absolute fantasy.

"Utmost regret and sadness"! Grow a spine for goodness sake. Stop kowtowing to demented men in dresses. If you exist to support women then that's all there is to it.

Sure, but I'm not going to alter the article, because that wouldn't be honest; if that'what you're implying anyway. If you're talking about the writer itself, eh, what can you do lmao.

Pretty sure he's addressing the article. It's normal for quotes and stickers addressing the first post to be about the article. There's not really any other practical way to do it.

Note for anybody just reading the headline, the WI appears to have done this most unwillingly and only because they are forced to by the court judgement. And some are already talking about starting "sisterhood groups" where men are allowed.

Also, for the non-Bongs or very young Bongs, there may be a tendency to see "Supreme Court" and equate it with the long-standing and prestigious (sometimes) institute of the same name in the USA. But in fact the UK's "Supreme Court" is a relatively recent thing introduced by Mephistopheles Tony Blair in 2009 and lacking the constitution of the USA (works on multiple levels) it's not a separate branch of government in quite the same way. It was pushed by Blair to supplant some of the House of Lord's functions as they were often a limiting power to the government of the day. Arguments for introducing it included, I kid you not, that there was limited meeting space in the House of Lords. So rather than approve maybe some extra office space, overturn the functioning of the country.

I hate how these organizations claim it pained them to do this. I bet they were jumping for joy to get rid of the freaks.
Not the WI. Membership perhaps, but the leaders are apparently quite Progressive types who have been championing this stuff for a while, include a bunch of ex Stonewall staffers, etc. See my post above.

Maybe #believewomen.

Feminists do hate men—a respectable and nearly correct attitude—but they make an exception for the worst men, e.g. troons, "replacement" migrants, woman-killers, child rapists (...the list becomes redundant so quickly).

They were forced, as they say, which they'd enjoy if a troon or the guy who raped their daughter to death did it, but it was done by unfuckable old white men, so they're angry and depressed about it.

Of course they were. The wording is like lambs blood on the lintel, you’ve got to say they ‘I’m not x but’.
Jam, Jerusalem and genocide!

And the article confirms they plan to spend resources on trans women anyway so their focus is still going to end up prioritising them over women in the work they are meant to be doing. Another charity failing to improve things for anyone but their own upper echelons.

Indeed.
The girl guide ban is the same.
These retards are only doing this because they have no choice.
The current FB cope is that this is only happening because rich TERFs are threatening legal action and forcing the issue into the spotlight. I personally enjoy pointing out that the victims being poor was exactly why the grooming gang shit went on as long as it did and the reason why we're only hearing from people who have the money to be heard is a commentary on the capitalist system grinding down the lower classes.

Naturally their "socialist" credentials vanish immediately when you suggest the working class would be shouting as loudly if they could.

Anecdotes be damned, but I’ve met several ladies who were paid-up members of the WI - all middle-age receptionists working in London, bizarrely - and let me tell you, they all fucking hated men. It was of course somewhat veiled under ‘workplace banter’; but you just knew they all harboured real resentment.

Couple that with how surprisingly seriously they took the WI - their gatherings weren’t some occasional Bingo night shindig; they were unmissable meetings which they made sound as socially thorough as a masonic lodge.

It stands to reason then that the rank and file members must have been utterly fucking infuriated by the admittance of shemale degenerate cunts. I suspect sustained, untenable pressure from within during recent years led to the leaders taking the tranny ejector seat, the moment the public appetite for gender-bending shite was markedly on the wane.
