Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu are playing games with us once again.
Yesterday, the president publicly warned Israel’s prime minister not to “interfere with Syria’s evolution into a prosperous State.” His officials, meanwhile, are leaking to reporters that “Bibi is seeing ghosts everywhere,” and that if he doesn’t stop the IDF strikes in Syria, “he will self-destruct.”
And then Trump invited Netanyahu to the White House.
What’s going on here?
As always, the conventional wisdom in legacy media is simple: Washington is being forced to rein in a reckless Jerusalem before it causes irreversible damage in the Middle East.
But, as I’ve said time and again, surface-level appearances are often deceiving, and when officials leak exciting tidbits to journalists, there’s always an unspoken agenda behind the leak.
If you ask me, far from Trump trying to calm down Israel’s operations in the region, I believe he and Netanyahu are coordinating a specific security development. While it’s hard to say exactly what, if I had to guess, my money would be on Netanyahu trying to get American permission for a significant operation in Iran, Syria or Lebanon.
Don’t forget: according to Saudi outlet Al Hadath, the United States recently warned Iraq of an imminent Israeli operation against Hezbollah which would continue until the group’s disarmament. And it came with an American warning on the side: Israel will hit Iraq hard if its pro‑Iranian militias intervene.
Ok, so is that the operation? I can’t say for sure. But this much is clear: Netanyahu and Trump are cooking something on the military front — and they’re keeping us in the dark.
