Eh, it all depends on how you look at it. Epps ended up actually overperforming that Emerson poll by 5-7 points, but no one in the MSM is gonna talk about that.

District polling is always spotty, especially in off-off-year specials.

Van Epps should have won by a much larger margin considering the state he's running in, but at the same time fatpacks continues to be the reverse oracle of this thread. I'm still concerned about the mid-terms though.

You and right-of-center people should be concerned about the mid-terms, but not from this underperformance specifically. This race when everything's said and done won't do anything extraordinary compared to the other special races this year, and nothing extraordinary* happened, so for '26 forecasting purposes I would almost pretend that this race never happened. All this race does is confirm (yet again) that Democrats have a propensity advantage that works very well on off-year elections and ...somewhat well on midterms.
Currently I think GOP comes out with 52 Senate seats and ~205 House seats (-1 / -15) in Congress this time next year, and nothing I saw tonight changes that.
*i.e. the Dem swing was absolutely predictable.

I don't think a 9 point win in a special election is all that bad really. I think Trump doing the conference call and posting on Twitter helped as he is really the only Republican that can drive out the vote. This is why I think the mid term convention the day before the midterms is a great idea.
