Edit 2: A discrepancy I just noticed between the screenshot (from one user) and the screen recording (from a different user) is that one displays the location as "Tel Aviv, Israel" and the other just displays it as "Israel". One displays "Connected via Israel App Store" and the other displays "Connected via Israel Android App". One also mentions username changes and the other doesn't. The screenshot version also lacks the checkmark but the recording version has it.

Edit 3: The screenshot is 100% fake because it lacks the gray checkmark. The video is likely fake because the "Who To Follow" doesn't update and change accounts. But the "Who To Follow" is also cached, which could explain why it doesn't change, if real (it doesn't always change if you go to a page then go "back" in browser). If fake, someone could edit the HTML for it to display this, but it'd be more than just one "Inspect Element" because of the refreshing. They'd have to use a script or something. And to my knowledge, no one else has posted evidence of the @DHSgov being located in Israel. It's just this screenshot from one person and this video from a different person. Because there's only been two pieces of "proof", I'm personally skeptical.

Edit 4: Officially, the reason for gray checkmarks having no location shown is for the "protection of government officials". People have screenshotted Grok saying that the DHSgov was located in Israel, but Grok is not solid proof.

I regret not posting about when Chinese social media sites like Weibo did this. Internet spergs in China were documenting various "I'm overseas" accounts that turned out to be from China.
My favourite was some "China boss", description said he manages a bunch of White local workers, he'll post about them being lazy and it turns out he's never posted from outside of China.
There were a few accounts pushing LGBT shit who turned out to be America and Europe based instead of "I'm a persecuted transwomxn in Liaoning uwu". It was a funny shitshow.

I get why you would note if an account is using a VPN or proxy if you're going to implement a system like this, but accounts from first world countries that are using them are always going to be accused of being Indian or Israeli or whatever and trying to hide it. There are legitimate reasons to use a VPN other than to obfuscate what country you're in.
