literally one of the fundamental reasons we know so much about grecoroman civilization is that Egypt was ruled by Greeks and Romans for so long and it's very dry there. so stuff is well preserved, both texts and artifacts. that's it, that's the basic reason.

like india, south america is wet and full of jungles. that's the worst conditions for preservation but the massive temperature fluctuations of the plains of the USA and Canada aren't super great either.

What ive managed to piece together from years of reading about the subject is the 1st wave of Europeans came and saw unparalleled city's of size and beauty, but they unknowingly brought with them illnesses the people were not capable of fighting.
