Funko Pop maker admits it might not survive another year as sales crash

Funko has warned investors that it may not survive another year after reporting a sharp decline in sales and issuing a formal notice about its financial stability.

The collectibles giant behind the Pop Vinyl brand posted net sales of $250.9 million for the third quarter of 2025, down 14% from the same period last year, and recorded a net loss of roughly $1 million, according to its latest financial filing. The company cited falling demand, higher tariffs, and tighter retailer inventories as major challenges in what it described as a “difficult retail environment.“

Funko’s troubles follow years of explosive growth fueled by its vinyl collectibles, which once dominated shelves at Walmart, Target, and comic book stores. But as overproduction flooded the market and consumer interest waned, the company’s once-steady profits began to collapse. Reports from industry tracker ICv2 show that Funko’s U.S. sales plunged 20% year-over-year, accounting for most of its overall revenue drop.

“Substantial doubt” over Funko’s future

In its latest SEC filing, Funko said there is “substantial doubt about our ability to continue as a going concern for the next 12 months,” acknowledging that without new funding or an acquisition, it could breach loan covenants and default on debt obligations. The company has roughly $250 million in total debt and has already amended its credit agreement twice in 2025 to secure covenant relief.

Funko says it will focus on smaller product lines such as Bitty Pops, blind-box collectibles, and its Pop Yourself kiosks while “exploring strategic alternatives,” including a potential sale. Once a billion-dollar powerhouse of pop-culture merchandise, the company now faces its most uncertain year yet.

Golden Girls Funko Pops are a thing for some reason. I don't know why those aren't selling like hot cakes.
I didn't believe you holy shit lmfao

What is the market for this? What overlap is there between the kind of person that collects funko pops and someone who was alive when the golden girls aired? Is there a subreddit for GAPs (Geriatric Attracted Persons)?

It's surprising they lasted this long. It looks like they have mined out the disposable incomes of the generation that grew up on action and slasher films. So, the operation has to close.

Remember that for a while, Funco was the only affordable way to get merch for obscure 70's and 80's films, so they cornered a market.

Modern IP's are either not this iconic, or have their own merch that's way nicer than funco.

Good riddance. Like I don't want to shit on people for collection stuff, I have various figurines myself, but Funko Pops are really fucking ugly and of low quality. No idea how this shit managed to gain any traction.

I received one of these as a gift back in 2019, around the time that gay ass Star Wars movie came out, and I’m glad I did. I really tried not to be ungrateful, but I didn’t know what to do with the thing.
Same here. The only one I have is a Ryu one my stepfather got me, because we used to play SF together. I can't imagine the average Plebbitor attaching any kind of sentimental value to Glup Shitto variant #472 sitting amomgst the rest. It's that Toy Story Buzz meme with the boxes but in real life.
What’s the point of a Funko Pop? Just to stare at it? Can you play with them like action figures or dolls? It just stares at you.
Their big heads are good for plinking if you're bored.

They should bury the Funko Pops in the Atari graveyard and let people dig them up half a century later.

What's funny is that the PVC they are made of would most likely be 100% in perfect shape after being buried in the ground for 50 years. Hell, even in 200 years it would probably be in good shape.

how do you lose 250 million dollars making little plastic figurines. The bloat at this company must be insane.
Its the same that happened to Telltale games. They made story games with very basic graphics (basically just needed a writter, a couple of pajeets, and some unknown voice actors) and even had some hits, and they went bankrupt. Turns out that making a brand that just relies on licensing other IPs isn't that great of an idea.

I forgot about this guy in New York City that sells comics and Funko in a store called PopFuzz. His backroom is filled to the brim. Wtf is this guy going to do?

That's the funny part, you can't even burn them, they will just emit toxic gases. They are literally less than useless, any way to get rid of them just makes the problem of their existence even more of an issue.

There should be a law against making useless shit that is actually worse than useless when you dispose of it.

I had to laugh when they announced ones for Gundam, the franchise that exists to sell plastic model kits of giant robots to autistic twelve-year-olds. No Gundam fan was going to touch them because they already have their preferred brand of plastic crack, and the finished kits are actually posable.

The lack of articulation is the real killer. Having a lump of plastic that does nothing is just so boring and soulless, more so than most consumer crap.

metallic magnetic enamel "disc plate" squares people could buy of pulp culture movies and hang on their wall.

What the hell are you taking about??

Since people keep mentioning Beanie Babies, they can actually be repurposed, so they are far superior to Funko Slop. You pop a seam, dump in a bunch of catnip, boom, cat toy. Cats seem to love the sound the beads made, and who doesn't enjoy catnip (except for those cats that are missing those genes)?

He's probably talking about those displate things. A bunch of youtube people were shilling them a few years back, it's pop culture slop printed on a steel sheet so it sticks to a magnet you stick to the wall. Basically a replacement for posters.

Huh, never heard of them before. All for the better.

An absolute indictment of what 30 years of participation trophies for just remembering to breathe can do to a generation...

Unfortunately, 30 years is two generations. Generations are generally 15 years, give or take.

I am only surprised that Funko Pop figurines lasted as long as they did. They're really ugly but, normies seem to adore them for some reason.

for years i've seen stores take these blasted things in, grow in size over time and then go under.
these things are cancer.

My friend owns a toy shop and he hates them, yet is obligated to have a full wall of them in his limited space. Must be infuriating; but every time I'm there, some fat normie laps up more than couple. He doesn't even buy them anymore because he's sitting on so much, and I heard this from him that they were "changing it up" a year or so ago, and that meant just mildly changing the poses. Guess it didn't work. :story:

Rest in piss, Funko Trash.

I guess making figurines of all those youtubers didn't pay off in the end.
Seriously why did Mista GG or MoistPenguinz need a funko? I can maybe understand shit like Oneyplays but they are chads and made their own talking plushies instead of some gay plastic chink shit. They used alpha fabric chink shit instead
