Funko Pop maker admits it might not survive another year as sales crash

Article on dexerto / archive

Funko has warned investors that it may not survive another year after reporting a sharp decline in sales and issuing a formal notice about its financial stability.

The collectibles giant behind the Pop Vinyl brand posted net sales of $250.9 million for the third quarter of 2025, down 14% from the same period last year, and recorded a net loss of roughly $1 million, according to its latest financial filing. The company cited falling demand, higher tariffs, and tighter retailer inventories as major challenges in what it described as a “difficult retail environment.“

Funko’s troubles follow years of explosive growth fueled by its vinyl collectibles, which once dominated shelves at Walmart, Target, and comic book stores. But as overproduction flooded the market and consumer interest waned, the company’s once-steady profits began to collapse. Reports from industry tracker ICv2 show that Funko’s U.S. sales plunged 20% year-over-year, accounting for most of its overall revenue drop.

“Substantial doubt” over Funko’s future

In its latest SEC filing, Funko said there is “substantial doubt about our ability to continue as a going concern for the next 12 months,” acknowledging that without new funding or an acquisition, it could breach loan covenants and default on debt obligations. The company has roughly $250 million in total debt and has already amended its credit agreement twice in 2025 to secure covenant relief.

Funko says it will focus on smaller product lines such as Bitty Pops, blind-box collectibles, and its Pop Yourself kiosks while “exploring strategic alternatives,” including a potential sale. Once a billion-dollar powerhouse of pop-culture merchandise, the company now faces its most uncertain year yet.

Yeah, on that note I'm gonna put in a sell order for all my $FNKO stock come Monday morning.
Considering that Funko's stock price is really in a rough spot currently, this doesn't sound like a bad idea.

I don't know if Pogs lasted long enough for them to have much of an impact on Chris.
I was going to say that the timeframe was right, but Chris would absolutely be the kid who gets them banned at school because a "friendly" became a "play for keeps" because the other kid thought they could score by scamming him. I was unaware that he made his own pogs.

As to fucko pops, At least the landfill levels of vinyl will decrease. For fuck sakes the heads don't even bobble.

Golden Girls Funko Pops are a thing for some reason.
Not even just a single set. There are multiple variations of them, one features Blanche, Rose and Sophia in matching bowling dresses because they did that in one episode.

And because the world wasn't quite retarded enough for the people at Funko, they also released a set of Golden Girls Funko Pop PEZ dispensers:

I assume Ed Kemper was involved in the design process.

I can't believe the Funkopacalypse is finally happening!

I remember a couple of years ago, when they were literally dumping unsold Funko Pops into landfill by the hundred.

I suspect there's going to be a few very interesting books/documentaries/eight hour YouTube 'Pop slop' video essays coming out about this, and exactly the reasons this happened - I have my own theories as to why they're going out of business, but I'd be interested in having them confirmed and I'd like to know the sort of bad corporate decisions that lead to this.

What really interests about this is how it's going to affect bricks and mortar retailers. Every 'geeky' shop I have ever been to has had walls full of these things. It's weird to see them going the way of the Beanie Baby.

I'm also very intrigued as to what level meme culture played in Funko's demise. They've become, in the popular imagination, a kind of cultural shorthand for the sort of person we all think of when we hear the words 'Funko pop' - the soy-filled Redditor who gets cucked and cries at Star Wars trailers. Funko stopped being cool and quirky, and became an embarrassment.
They should bury the Funko Pops in the Atari graveyard and let people dig them up half a century later.

Funko Inc should start selling them at a discount and tell people to "buy the dip!" Tell them that the Pops will be even more valuable than in the past after the Labubus go away. Heck, partner with a hummus company and sell literal Funko branded dip.

what happens to all the stores at the mall that are just 90% funko pops?
Mall? What's a mall? Is that the sonic torture dungeon that's manned by obese dementors on Segways, eternally guarding empty stores full of mildew?

I'll tell you what happened when the pog fad died.

The pog store near me was in a strip mall, the cheapest one in town probably. I think it was also home to like, the place where you get braces put on your teeth, your melanoma cut off, or your tax forms filled out. The types of place where location doesn't matter.

The pog store had various pogs at different price points. For example, cool ones like holographic yin yang or pure poison ones with skulls on them might have been 5 to a dollar. Boring ones like educational ones that tell what what each of the 50 states are known for would have been 15 for a dollar. Same for religious ones, which might simply have "John 3:16" written on them.

Advertising pogs, that marketed movies like Jurassic Park or Casper, might have been 10 for a dollar. That's about the price generic ones would cost - these were totally random art - weird looking faces, early CGI spaceships, and so on.

The most expensive pogs might have been like 3 for a dollar, these had photos from the Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition or maybe the Victoria Secret catalog.

Slammers were a few dollars each, made of milled aluminum, steel, or brass. A row of these precious artifacts was kept behind glass. A few had a sawblade shape. A common one had OJ Simpson behind bars, with "OJ's in the slammer" written around the border. Protective plastic tubes were also sold, suspended from the ceiling.

I think it was 1994 that the pog fad was ending. It wasn't going to last until the beginning of the school year in August, and some schools were banning pogs as a form of gambling. The owner saw the writing on the wall. So he got a bunch of ziplock bags, I think gallon sized, and filled them up with assortments of random pogs, and sold them for $10 a bag. He said there were a thousand per bag, but I don't know if it was more or less. They might have even had a slammer thrown in.

I ended up getting two of these bags. They had all sorts of pogs in them and I autistically sorted them. I still have them packed away somewhere. They are like a snapshot into the culture of that year. They're pretty interesting to look at because you see what movies were in theaters, what art directed at kids was like, and what was in pop culture.

Some of them are bobbleheads but only for IPs that already have a master license for vinyl figures with another company, Marvel and Star Wars are the two IPs I know that have their Funko POPs function as bobbleheads.
They won't have to worry about that as long as Fuggler stays solvent.

Hey, check it out, it's your favorite cartoon characters Babbregg and Spengblerrb!
That and they still sell anime figures, trading cards, and PSA-backed grading services for TCGs.

This is why I only collect military medals and uniforms.
For some reason the SS shit just keeps getting more and more valuable

While I think Funko doesn't have much time left you can easily argue the debt position of 250m is just working capital, I.e. their cash, accounts receivable and inventory exceeds $250m

The primary issue here is that their line of credits have lending covenants that will stipulate certain balance sheet requirements. Basically they will have to go cap in hand and raise more capital. Wtf they didn't do this at $30 and just keep a lazy balance sheet is anyone's guess (it is shortterm greed, it always is).

I never understood Funko Pops, they always felt like an endgame for hyper materialism; ugly plastic refuse that offered nothing except to collect dust on your shelf and drain your wallet. Meanwhile, you can't afford a house or food to eat. Just disgusting all around.
