Feeling a bit overwhelmed and defeated today.

I’m notorious for acting like I’m great and everything is great when deep down, I’m struggling.

It sounds so trivial compared to the hardships other people are facing, but this UTI coupled with staying sober and being a mom is making my mental & physical exhaustion get the better of me.

Most of the time I give myself zero grace or actively acknowledge I have SMA, I’m a mom, I’m trying to rebuild my life, AND stay mentally and physically healthy. Managing all those things is a full time job plus overtime. In hindsight, having SMA alone is a full time job.

In my mind, I want my body & mind working at the fullest capacity at all times or I’m failing. And it hasn’t lately. This infection or whatever is going on with my bladder has been a huge set back.

I feel like a juggler that is an embarrassment of an act.

But, I’m showing up. I’m taking steps. I’m doing the best I can & I need to remind myself of that more often. I’m giving myself grace.

So tonight, instead of filling my soul with feelings of inadequacy, exhaustion, and frustration, I’m going to think of my blessings.

Blessed to be sober. To have my beautiful daughter asleep next to me. To have my parents. To have a support system.

To have love & be able to give it.

Halloween and UTI updates from Alex.



The "RIP" cupcakes are an interesting choice, since Alex generally sounds like she's dying when she's swallowing. I also wonder how Ari being in school is going to go for Alex, since Ari will bring various bugs home constantly. The last thing Alex needs is a respiratory infection.

As a Halloween nerd I actually love Alex's costume, simple as it is. It's fucking horrifying. My only concern would be her scaring Ari, but she seems nonplussed, so I'm in. I just really wonder how Alex is going to survive Ari's school years, and I mean literally. Ari will be doing what all children do and bringing home every bug and sickness ever to exist, and Alex is in poor physical condition to survive toddler superbugs.

I think it's probably just that she wants to maintain the illusion that she's making anything at all. Her savory dishes are always weird combinations of ingredients and spices, so maybe sweet stuff just doesn't seem flavorful enough to her? I guess coating everything in ranch dressing might kill your tastebuds, Chantal-style (though she prefers French dressing).
