Gonna say, for the 50th time in this thread, you all should read Starship Troopers. The movie is a ton of fun, but the book is a different beast entirely. Do yourselves a favor and order it. It's an easy read, and Heinlein loves to explore political ideas and consequences. Some of the shit in the book is almost prophetic.

Yup, that specific contract (churchill falls) ended semi recently but quebec got it's electricity at like 1/100th the going rate at the end ( the contract was WAY too long and basically didn't account for energy price rising). The contract has been remade with better rates going forward (the newfies are currently getting ripped off a bit but the deal get much better in the next decade). I think they announced more dams around there too recently but haven't really looked at it

That sounds about right. Trump's efforts to destabilize China and end Belt And Road have finally come home to roost. That's not really a good sign for things to come. Pressing the nuclear button on trade is a sign of desperation and the only question is whether they collapse from it before or after they unleash military campaigns. An attack on Taiwan seems almost inevitable at this point.
