Trump needs to install a live camera feed at the Portland Ice facility's front gate. Viewership would immediately dwarf Kimmel. Maybe call the show "He will deport us".

There are pros and cons of being a big tent group. A line in the sand has to be drawn somewhere so to speak but clashing over relatively minor reasons is politically alienating. People who recognize their old beliefs were wrong, have genuinely changed and want to go down the proper path should be welcomed.
we're also in a massive reshuffling of the political system in the USA, "the GOP" is a very different beast from twenty years ago and the dems are just fucking nuts, which pushes a lot of moderates into the Big Tent even if they're not that _in_ to anything going on

I've heard more than a couple of conservative pundits point out that the adversarial nature of USA politics sorta needs actual differences in ways to run the country, not "run the country" vs "be pants-crappingly insane" and this could eventually lead to big governance problems beyond vague ideas about the identity of the GOP

If things get really bad it could lead to the end of the current Party System. Looking to American history, the most similar situation I can think of is the fate of the Democratic-Republican Party and the Whigs in the 19th century. The former came to dominance because of the collapse of the Federalist Party and then broke apart because of views on Jacksonian democracy and the latter which was created in opposition to Andrew Jackson broke down because of disputes over slavery.

If the past shows us anything it is that should the Republicans get too dominant and the Democrats become irrelevant, barring any kind of one-party dictatorship rule, the GOP will inevitably fracture at some point.

Why do you think the end of the current party system is bad? Why would the GOP fracturing not be a good thing?

yeah I think it'll eventually flop out into some two-party type thing more than a one-party like Mexico or whatever

maybe not get bad like "empirically a negative" so much as get bad like "the situation continues to escalate"

Believe what you want. But to me. Not welcoming people that change their minds, is something I think the right should absolutely NOT do.

The purity spiral, and shit like that is what made me hate the left so much.
Of course of course just don’t let those people worm their way into power or leadership positions, they are disproportionately loud to their size, look what the never trump republicans did. Or the tech bros. There is difference between autistic purity testing and letting some dude who was a Democrat a year ago speak for the party (exactly what happened with Elon)

There has to be some sort of smart middle ground between the purity spiral and getting so big tent your party loses all meaning

Does anyone else think it's as funny as I do that even with AI leftists cannot meme?
Neither side can. AI is such lazy slop. Putting a sombrero on a guy isn't inherently funny, what is funny is that the guy gets so upset over it. Then what's doubly funny is his adversaries being so petty and doing it more.

I should clarify that I meant "bad" in a general sense in terms of how it relates to the current status quo. There is also the fact if it does happen we will have to watch and see people pick sides and the idea of former colleagues or allies going against one another isn't all that pleasant to think about. It will be an upheaval to experience. Perhaps necessary in the end but not all that enjoyable to go through.

Personally I'm indifferent to whatever happens to the current system, the end of it is inevitable as was the case for the First, Second, Third, Fourth and Fifth Party Systems. Something will happen eventually but who knows when.

It’s basically guaranteed to once trump is gone tbqh, not talking about fracturing to the point the party is gone but there is 100% be some serious infighting over the AIPAC shit as more and more young republicans join the party. I also think the neocons will 100% try to stage a takeover.

The only real question is how much legitimacy Vance has as a successor, if he has a lot Mabye the infighting I described will be delayed another cycle or two

A lot of those colleagues and allies are near as bad as any dem. Whenever a new party system formed it was a rationalization of politics really, a re setting as both parties got so big tent the various factions began to switch

i don't know about that.
the main players of the neocon clique that ran the country during the bush era are either dead by now, or ancient fossils who aren't in any shape to do much of anything anymore.
A lot of the more active overt ones are gone and out of the office but the snakes in the grass are still there.

Hey, if one side successfully recognizes that the other side is so absurdly sensitive that something as sloppy as AI and sombreros can enrage them, then I think that means that one side is funny.

Then again, if leftoids can get drum up outrage over TWO SCOOPS then maybe laughing at leftoids is the equivalent of laughing at fart jokes. At some point, you're laughing at yourself for even imagining that it might be funny.

I don’t mean the same literal neocon bush area clique, I mean adjacent types modern Neo cons, Desantis, Cruz those types etc. hawks and huckabee types

There is also the free trade vs protectionism debate that will need to be settled

Vance being so damn young will have an effect too. If he gets 2 mandates (here's hoping) he'll be barely 50 when he's out, He'll continue having a massive impact on the party direction for decades afterward.
