there were nogs at the turning point hq memorial selling posters with charlies face on them for 5 dollars each. when people were on the mic crying / eulogizing charlie one of them was standing in the crowd next to his poster "stand" looking down at his phone with his mouth agape. there were also white people there giving out water for free

You may say that but on a societal level, that is absolutely what it does. When you forgive the person that committed a heinous crime, a lot of the public outrage over the crime dies down.
The right thing is not to forgive, but to call for revenge, to call for measures to be taken so that it never happens again.
