It's almost like that, at this point, they have to keep nominating a wahmens until one finally wins, hoping that they get to claim the "WE broke that eebul heccin' glass ceiling. Now pardon us as we go about destroying everything of value."
Because the alternative is a campaign focused on fixing problems that ail the common man. Problem is they've taken so many opposition positions from the republicans at this point that the only real things they have to run on that aren't inherently toxic are like, student loans. And they already locked themselves into the most hardline position towards it, so they can't approach any sort of semi reasonable reform without being accused of backtracking.
At this point the democrats oppose manufacturing expansion, oppose resource extraction, oppose energy generation, oppose business services, and generally oppose native born employment as a whole. The only thing they seem to be okay with is the luxury personal services economy - personal trainers, upscale cafes, artist patronage, while the entire rest of the economy is just imported from overseas and paid for with feel good intentions and vibes.
They oppose the right to defend yourself and oppose the state providing a defense force (police) in your stead. They oppose the enforcement of law, the incarceration of criminals, and the concept of property. In the aforementioned luxury personal services economy they permit, all goods can just be taken off shelves and the staff can be beaten, and no consequences will be visited upon the attacker. There is some level of belief that if you have no rules and no ownership then there is no need for violence, while just ignoring the entire history of every human civilization, even the african ones, forming warbands to control resources with violence in the absence of any higher power and rules.
They can't build a functional platform, because they can't construct a functional worldview for their platform to steer them towards, so all they have left to campaign on is what they think might get written in a history book one day. The funniest part is that its not even in the history books for the voter, just the person elected. Its more akin to a wannabe prom queen bullying her way through the grade stack to bring everyone in line so she can have her day, its not about anyone else.
