this is not even just a left issue but it is more common on the left. essentially it boils down to a lack of fear and a lack of preparedness lets call it. in the old days you kept shit as private as possible because you were either afraid some psycho was going to hunt you down and murder you because the news or your parents told you the internet was filled with bad people and you cant let them know where you live or what your real name is because they are waiting to strike any second.
that fear was burned into many kids when they were young and they held on to those safety measures ever since. there are also people mainly on the right that understand being prepared is a good idea.
you do not want to let the government or any random website or person have too much of your info especially in todays world where they WILL use it against you if the chance arises. the people now that are lacking or have zero opsec as a result of people from past generations going "oh things were fine for us growing up online our parents were clearly too strict with us so lets be less strict with our kids"
this way of thinking continued until now we have kids casually telling everyone their whole fucking name and where they live like its nothing. these kids have now grown up into adults and are now learning what happens when you spend your entire life online using one single name and casually telling people everything about yourself over the course of years. they think things go away when they stop using a website and act shocked when people are able to dig up their past info.
long story short the answer to your question is that people are more retarded and less afraid than they used to be. the left is especially subject to this due to the lack of consequences for their actions.
