But to be fair, people didn’t really start to distinguish each other by ethnicity until much later, as religion was a much more important factor. A black person, like an Ethiopian would be deemed a curiosity in medieval Europe, but would not be treated downright hostile, due to their Christian faith.

A prime example would be when Kublai Khan sent Chinese Christians as a diplomatic mission to European courts and those Christians wrote of how great they were treated, once their religion was discovered.

My point is that their assertion that their ancestors had some sort of proto-hitlerian racial purity ancestor-worshipping religion is entirely made up. The majority of what we know about pre-christian European religion was documented almost entirely by Christians, who preserved the religion with bias and had a vested interest in easing the pagans into conversion by preserving pagan traditions within a Christian moral framework.

Its much more likely that pre-christian European religion was closer to modern day hinduism than Twitter nazi shit or Christianity, and Hinduism isn't really known for building functioning societies. Yeah, but pre-Norman Anglo Saxons did not really have traditional feudalism, more like a very barebones version of it, did they. Same as Scandinavians and Rus, which is why you see slavery persist there longer, than it did in Western Europe.

Meanwhile, the Romans in the East actually had an imperial state, absent of feudalism, which is why slavery actually persisted there for the entirety of the Eastern Empire’s existence, even if it started to decline towards the Crusades.
