Let's say someone online literally posts "hey, I want to be fired, please call my boss and tell them to fire me." Is granting their request against some kind of ethos, when they want it so badly? It's not like you're even doing it as a "site representative," at that rate any random Twitter user might do it.

Now go one layer up from that. They post "I believe people should be in constant fear over expressing constitutionally protected speech, and [insert controversial speech here]." Is that not basically saying the same thing? "I believe I personally should fear consequences." Ok bud, if you say so.

There is no clearer example of a kind of statement that prompts its own response. It's not like a scenario where they said "I believe Wal-Marts deserve to be robbed" and then suffered speech-based consequences, since in that case they didn't say anything about speech. These are cases where people are specifically saying or implying that they believe they personally deserve consequences.
