Lots of people join the military for totally non-ideological reasons, even if its objectively nonsensical given their stated beliefs. It is what it is.

It's a decent go if you, stick to logistics or support as a poor uneducated guy. Pay is shit but they will give you a decent education and if you stick with it a rather healthy pension ( assuming you specialize and advance).

I have heard this sentiment but tend to disagree. While I do lean left, if dirtbag variant, I tend to think the Schmitt Friend Enemy Distinction is the most honest underlying superstructure of all politic (obviously don't agree with his autocratic streak but whatever). In the end, it is Friend and Enemy. Kirk dying is bad because he is a Friend and Friends are Good. Hasan dying is good because he is an Enemy and Enemies are Evil.

If the leftist version of this crass joking and attacking strikes you as more evil, I suspect it is because the target was Friend and not Enemy.
