There have been several studies that show that there are far more people who are mentally ill, have depression or bi-polar disorder, BPD, etc. on the political Left than there are on the Right. People who are on the Left report higher numbers of depression, anger, anxiety, and general dissatisfaction with life, while people on the Right report higher numbers of feeling happiness, contentment, satisfaction, and accomplishment. I'm just about as desensitized as they come and this has still been one of the most harrowing experiences of my life. Not because of the murder itself, though; while it was a horrific act, murders happen all the time and you just kind of have to deal with it.

What gets me has been the response. I'd argue it's that it's because conservatism has a direct system of values to cling to when in tough times. It's easier when shit hits the fan to just read the bible for answers. Also let's not forget the actual definitions of progressive vs conservative. Conservatism is the belief that humans are inherently wicked and without God society will crumble to its knees. Progressivism is the belief that humans are inherently good and wickedness can be treated and fixed through scientific advancements. I'd argue the correct answer is somewhere in the middle, God is good to cling to in hard times, and while most people are good people, there are wicked people who will never be fixed no matter how far society advances.

I don't think the left is inherently a mental disorder. But more people with mental disorders cling to it as conservatism tends to reject those with mental disorders at face value. It's effectively, you cling to the crowd which accepts you.
