I was just saying most people think of Utah being a certain way. They stereotype people who live in Utah as being a strict Mormon and every family being huge with 30 kids and 4 wives.

From what I understand, Mormons don't have a role that's referred to as a pastor. A possibly similar(?) role is a bishop or an elder.

I also don't believe Robinson's father immediately went to the authorities for prize money, he called in a pastor who (I assume) advised him the only sensible thing to do is to turn his son in and face justice. Especially if Robinson was truly expressing suicidal thoughts, which poses a more immediate threat than whatever torture awaits him in the penal system.

If you found out someone you loved committed some crime and immediately think "Hell yeah I would turn that cunt in", I don't know what to think about you.

I would turn them in. Would it be a difficult thing to do? Absolutely, my entire family would be torn by it. But ultimately you have to, because the last thing you want is to be tossed into jail for a vile act of murder (which isn't just "some crime") that your child had committed. But go ahead and keep larping on your moral high ground though.

I actually care about being alive and living in a world where we try not to let mentally ill killers have the freedom to kill more people.

And it's pretty obvious but murder is bad. If I had a family member that went out and murdered someone regardless of the reasoning and it wasn't in self defense, I'd be on the phone with 911 too.

Lastly, I prefer not giving dangerous killers second chances. Second chances lead to more deaths. Don't give them a second chance to kill someone else. I don't know how this is so hard to understand.

You missed the context about a father turning in his own son. My remark wasn't about letting some rando go free, but about trusting one's own family.

depending on the context and details of the case, i would help and defend my son if he had committed murder. hide him, help him evade arrest, lie to the cops, etc.
in this particular case i would probably give him up though, because killing a man who did nothing wrong and didn't derserve to die is not justifiable to me.
