Taiwan will probably stop being the epicenter of chip production sooner rather than later. It makes more sense (for China) to wait for the United States to begin producing a comparable product domestically, stop caring whether or not Taiwan exists, then peacefully claim Taiwan in a similar vein to what was accomplished with Hong Kong.

Hong Kong is a very different beast than Taiwan, and a "peaceful acquisition" is not in the cards. Hong Kong is a singular city withing the Chinese mainland that was leased for 100 or so years from China to Great Britain (by conquest, but still contractually owned), and was relinquished early because the British government are a bunch of cucks.
Hong Kong had no standing military and was quite literally surrounded by China, Taiwan on the other hand is in the ocean and fully prepared and expecting Chinese invasions with minimal interest in being absorbed into the mainland. There will be no peace on that front, whether the US is directly involved or not.

Yes, tariffs are basic, but what Trump has done is broken the neoliberal economic order holds that economic barriers are always bad for the host nation and free trade and immigration are always beneficial. The traditional view for the past half century was that implementing tariffs would weaken you politically and economically around the globe— Trump has proven the exact opposite. By implementing tariffs, he is strengthening the United States economically and politically by reshoring jobs and encouraging trade with strategic allies and discouraging trade with potential political foes (BRICS alliance). Consider the situation where the United States needs to go to war with China, and it doesn't last 23 minutes with everyone blown up. BRICS would be able to economically isolate the US, and perhaps even break it up NATO since the smaller European Countries are completely unprepared for this sort of economic warfare. Trump's tiered tariffs are designed to encourage investment, divestment, and trade so that the US and its allies have a secure supply chain in the event of world war with BRICS.
