And I may be late to say this but why the hell would he make ten rivals instead of making three or four?. Even if you're lazy about doing it giving the expectation ten and you don't have a team to help you is basically saying that it won't be finished.
It ties back to his love for No More Heroes. "NMH1 has 10 fights (plus a secret one), why not have the same for my game?" A dumb reason, but a reason regardless.

And I may be late to say this but why the hell would he make ten rivals instead of making three or four?. Even if you're lazy about doing it giving the expectation ten and you don't have a team to help you is basically saying that it won't be finished.
It's not even about the amount of rivals, after all they all get killed the very same way save for their super duper specific killing option and the non-moe NPCs never change routines.

This game would've been finished long by now had he not spent the last 11 years developing shitty easter eggs and adding unecessary lore to the NPCs. No, really, just compare these two.

Osana and Senpai have been close friends ever since they were very young children. They have always lived next-door to each other, and have always walked to school together.
Despite their closeness, Osana is quite rude and harsh towards Senpai; she is always easily irritated and quick to anger when he is around. The reason for this behavior is because Osana has developed romantic feelings for Senpai, but she is afraid of letting him know how she truly feels about him.
She doesn't want him to know how she really feels about him, so she is mean to him at almost every opportunity. However, her true desire is to confess her feelings to him underneath the cherry tree behind the school...and if nothing stops her, that day will come very soon.

Otohiko Meichi is a student attending Akademi Academy in the year 202X. Despite his unassuming nature and delicate presence, he stands out among his peers - but not for reasons that he is proud of.
From the time he was a toddler, Otohiko has struggled with a fragile constitution. His body has always been weak, leaving him prone to frequent illness and long recovery periods. While other children ran and played with boundless energy, Otohiko sat on the sidelines, watching from a distance with a quiet and resigned expression. His physical limitations shaped much of his early life, robbing him of most of the typical experiences of childhood.
Due to his ongoing health issues, Otohiko is a regular visitor to the school's infirmary. Whether it's dizziness, fatigue, or a sudden bout of illness, he often finds himself needing medical attention, or simply a place to rest and regain his strength. The nurse knows him well, and treats him with kindness, having come to expect his frequent visits. The infirmary has become a second home to him, a quiet refuge where he can momentarily escape the pressures of school life.
Otohiko's fragile health comes with another consequence; he requires more sleep than the average person, which is a trait that has created many problems in his life. Most mornings are a struggle for him; he finds it nearly impossible to wake up on time. As a result, he often stumbles into the school building mere moments before homeroom begins, looking disheveled and half-awake. His teachers and classmates have come to expect his tardiness, and many are surprised whenever he manages to arrive punctually. For Otohiko, just making it to class on time feels like an accomplishment in itself.
Otohiko's delicate voice and soft-spoken demeanor have earned him ridicule from some of the more narrow-minded students at Akademi Academy. They mock the way he talks and moves, calling attention to his perceived femininity. Though the teasing stings, Otohiko never responds with anger. He endures it in silence, sometimes with a forced smile, trying to maintain his composure even when he feels deeply hurt. His gentle nature only fuels the mockery, making him a target for those who mistake kindness for weakness.
In addition to his frail health and feminine mannerisms, Otohiko has a notorious reputation for being clumsy. It's not uncommon to see him tripping over his own feet, dropping books in the hallway, or accidentally knocking over stacks of supplies. His clumsiness is almost cartoonish at times; the unfortunate result of a body that seems determined to never cooperate with his intentions. Some students find it endearing, while others see it as yet another reason to mock him.
Otohiko comes from a household where masculinity is worn like a badge of honor; his father and two older brothers are the very picture of strength and manhood, with broad shoulders, booming voices, and a commanding presence. In contrast, Otohiko is quiet, thin, and physically weak, traits that have always made him feel out-of-place among his own family. His father views him as a disappointment, frustrated by his son's inability to "man up" and live up to the family's standards. One of the few sources of solace in Otohiko's life is his loving mother, a gentle woman who accepts him for who he is, and is always quick to comfort him with phrases such as, "Softness is not a flaw, but a different kind of strength."

And I may be late to say this but why the hell would he make ten rivals instead of making three or four?. Even if you're lazy about doing it giving the expectation ten and you don't have a team to help you is basically saying that it won't be finished.

I remember him saying that once he finished Osana it would take him significantly less time to add the other 9 rivals. I'm not a programmer so idk how long it would take to add another rival on average but I can't see it taking 4 YEARS to add ONE new character thats core to the game.

Alex's problem isn't that he doesn't have a team to help him (he's had volunteers helping him for years) it's that he would rather add retarded Easter eggs and lore dumps than continue the core game development. Plus he has to constantly fix bugs because of his spaghetti code and his refusal to learn how to code better.

Which to me was pretty funny since I've talked to few gamer women and none of them found anything uncomfortable about PM2, all of them loved it.
Princess Maker 2 was one of my all-time favorites as a small female child. I loved that it combined dress-up with RPG. My mom made me PROMISE not to do any of the "bad stuff" in the game (I did while she wasn't looking). Good times!

Where da update at? (archive)
The “always upload a new build on the 1st and 15th of every month” update schedule had benefits, but also had downsides. Back in June, I polled the community and asked if it would be okay to use different criteria for determining whether or not to upload a new build.

So, what exactly is the new criteria? Well, it’s a little hard to explain with words, so I’ll explain it with a flowchart, instead.

(Click this link if the image isn’t loading for some reason.)

In short: Sorry, no new build today. I should have something for you within the next few days, though.

August 4 update (archive)
Sorry for the delay! The new build is finally ready.

To read a list of everything that was added/changed/fixed/improved in the latest update – complete with videos and screenshots of the new features! – please scroll down past this artwork by @theamoraceleste:

New Intro Hands

For years, the game’s intro animation began with this camera shot:
https://youtube.com/watch?v=E999VzBbAg0This looks really bad. You can see individual polygons on the hands, the texture is obviously mirrored, and the “animation” – if you can even call it that – is just moving in a straight line directly from one pose to another pose. Yikes. It looks very, “The developer doesn’t care at all, and only bothered to put in the bare minimum amount of effort.” So, I decided it was time for a change:
https://youtube.com/watch?v=JTjPK6uKLcsAhhhhh, much better! A smoother model, a unique texture for both hands, and an animation that looks far more natural! Huge improvement, in my opinion!

Unique Suicide Cutscene for Amai

Amai now has a unique suicide cutscene (complete with voice lines for Amai’s mother) instead of simply being a duplicate of Osana’s suicide cutscene.

I don’t want to jumpscare you with morbid visuals that you don’t want to see, so I’ll post a screenshot that only hints at the content of the cutscene:

…and if you want to see it in clearer detail, you’ll just have to play the game!

This is the first step towards giving all rivals a unique suicide cutscene, instead of duplicating Osana’s cutscene 10 times.

New Info-chan Voice Lines

Info-chan’s voice lines have been replaced with lines recorded by a new actress. Also, Info-chan now has voice lines when telling Ayano about Kizana!

If you notice that some of Info-chan’s lines seem louder/quieter than the preceding/subsequent lines, don’t worry about it too much – I fully intend to address that in a future update.

Heat Distortion

When Amai boils water for her Thursday post-Cleaning Time event, there is now a “heat distortion” effect over the cooking pot that Amai uses to boil water! The effect also appears over the pot of water that Ayano boils in the post-Amai cutscene.
https://youtube.com/watch?v=wNSjMt8jdDUYou might be thinking, “Huh?? What?? Why does this matter?? Who cares??”

Well, think about the hands in the intro animation. The old hands looked cheap, low-effort, and like I just didn’t care at all. The new hands look high-quality, and are a much better reflection of how committed I am to giving you a high-quality product.

Yeah, shimmering air isn’t absolutely mandatory, but it says, “this developer cares about making his game look good,” rather than, “this developer does the bare minimum.” Some of these adjustments are important to me; a personal goal that means a lot to me, even if it doesn’t mean much to you.

Plus, in a game that involves fire as a gameplay mechanic (murdering students by setting them on fire, burning evidence with the incinerator or kiln, an event about a rival Moeko lighting a fire in a trash can, etc) I think it makes sense to invest a bit of time into creating and implementing a heat distortion effect.

Pose Mode Search Bar

Pose Mode allows you to lock a student in place and make them play any animation of your choosing. However, Yandere Simulator contains a massive number of animations – over 760! – and searching for a specific animation in that giant list can be a real headache.

Recently, a fan of the game created a mod that adds a “search bar” to Pose Mode, allowing you to filter animations by name. This mod blew my mind!

If someone had come to me and requested a feature like that, I would have said, “No!! I won’t do that!! Do you have any idea how difficult and time-consuming that would be?! I refuse!!” But, after seeing a fan mod it into the game, I had absolutely no excuse. “If a fan can do it, then I should be able to do it, too!”

So, last night, I added a search bar to Pose Mode:
https://youtube.com/watch?v=3EyjNWq4ncMIt was tricky, but wasn’t anywhere near as hard as I assumed it would be. I bet that a lot of other frequently-requested quality-of-life improvements are also not as difficult as I imagine them being – so, maybe more improvements like this will come to the game in the near future!

Replaced Assets

Sometimes, a 3D artist who contributed to Yandere Simulator in the past will contact me and ask me to remove their work from the game. The reasons for this can be varied; for example, sometimes they don’t feel proud of their old work from 10~11 years ago, feel that it doesn’t represent their ability anymore, and want it gone. When I get requests like this, I honor the wishes of the artist who is asking me to remove their work, and replace their models and/or textures with new ones.

As a result of a recent “please remove my ancient work” request, the following models have been replaced with new models:

  • Photography Club’s Camera
  • Bulletin Board
  • Folding Chair
  • Circular Saw
  • Small Locker
  • Tall Locker
  • Chalkboard
  • PA Speaker
  • Whiteboard
  • Bookshelf
  • Table
More assets will be replaced in a future update, as well.

If you’re thinking, “I miss one of the old assets! I preferred the way it looked!” don’t panic too much. The exact appearance of an asset can always be tweaked until it feels right.

In addition to the above assets, another part of the game that has been replaced is…the entirety of the Cooking Club! This isn’t a bad thing, though, because I’m actually really thrilled with how the Cooking Club’s new models look! Take a peek:
https://youtube.com/watch?v=LYK5K08iPtYBefore you scroll down to the comment section and write a comment saying something like, “We don’t want a new Cooking Club! We want a new rival!” Please keep in mind that I didn’t choose to replace the Cooking Club or any of the other models that got replaced today; I was obligated to by a former volunteer.

I don’t wake up in the morning and say, “Ahhhhh, what a beautiful morning! Today, my top priority will be to replace a texture from 10 years ago!” Rather, I wake up desperately hoping that I will be able to get through the day without someone creating new problems for me that suck away time that I could have spent making progress towards my goals. However, that is rarely the case.

Often, the tasks I work on don’t represent my priorities; they represent my obligations. Please keep this in mind before writing nasty comments below.

AZERTY Workaround

Earlier this year, I upgraded to the latest version of Unity. This brought numerous benefits, but an unfortunate side-effect occurred: the game stopped automatically remapping AZERTY input into QWERTY input, meaning that the game stopped being compatible with AZERTY keyboards. This appears to be happening at the level of the game engine itself; and is not something I can fix by ticking a checkbox or anything like that. (I already tried, and it didn’t work…)

Well, I’ve been informed of a workaround that will permit you to play Yandere Simulator as intended on an AZERTY keyboard:

  1. Download and install AutoHotkey from this website: https://www.autohotkey.com/
  2. Download Yandere Simulator and double-click the “AZERTY.ahk” script found in the same directory as YandereSimulator.exe
Now, when you play Yandere Simulator, your keyboard will automatically switch your Z, A, and Q inputs into W, Q, and A inputs!

When you’re ready to stop playing Yandere Simulator and revert your keyboard input back to normal, press the F1 key on your keyboard.

Additions / Changes

  • Tiny detail that 1% of players will notice or care about: When walking through a torii gate, you’re not supposed to walk through the exact center, because the center is reserved for deities. You’re supposed to walk slightly through the torii gate slightly off-center. I’ve made an adjustment to student pathfinding so that they will now try to avoid walking through the direct center of a torii gate.
  • The delinquent beat-em-up minigame, the 1980s Mode cutscenes, the Mission Mode menu, the title screen menu, the loading screen, the calendar screen, the “living room scene”, the senpai creation scene, the Kokona tutorial cutscene, phone text message cutscene, and the the “Ayano chooses her Scheme in her room” screen are now all compatible with 16:10 aspect ratio monitors.
  • The pause menu in 1989 is a notepad rather than a smartphone, but smartphone sound effects were playing while the player used the menu. This oversight has been corrected; the 1989 pause menu now uses “thumbing through paper” sound effects. (Also, the sound for opening/closing the pause menu is now a “woosh” sound that suits both the smartphone and the notepad menus.)
  • Removed the animation for making Octodogs in the Cooking Club. Now the game just fades to black and fades back in. I’m fine with this, because the “make octodogs” animation was one of the worst animations in the game (it was made by me in 2015) and also lasted way too long.
  • When Pippi Osu was first added to the game, she had short white socks. I’ve restored these socks.
  • It is now possible to select the chainsaw as a weapon when designing a Mission Mode mission.
  • Replaced Bankotsuko’s model with a new one that is more accurate to her character artwork.
  • Updated the eye texture used in the Magical Girl Pretty Miyuki easter egg.
  • Improved Kencho’s “spying from the distance with binoculars” animation.
  • Improved the textures for the fountains around the school.
  • Slightly adjusted Shiromi’s list of dislikes.
  • Amai now has hair physics.

Fixes

  • Every time the player loads into the protagonist’s bedroom, the game takes a screenshot of the protagonist and updates the “Stats” screen with this screenshot. When taking this screenshot, the game puts a pink background behind the protagonist. Due to a bug, for some players, this pink background never disappeared, and just floated there forever. This bug should be fixed now.
  • If the player killed a student with electrocution while they were checking their locker for a note and then tried to dump the student’s corpse into the incinerator, the student would rotate and face the opposite direction of the incinerator during the “placed inside of incinerator” animation. This bug has been fixed.
  • If a student witnessed the moment that the player dropped an item on the ground, then, when the student reached the point in their code where they were supposed to walk over to the item and investigate it, they would instead fire the “ignore dropped item and return to routine” code. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player wore any type of clothing, got it bloody, put it into the washing machine, and cleaned the blood off of it, the clothing’s outline would still be “orange” (murder evidence) in Yandere Vision, instead of cyan, like it was supposed to be. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player approached a gossiping student, the player would learn that student’s opinion on gossip. However, the notification that popped up at the top of the screen would not display properly. This bug has been fixed.
  • It was sometimes possible for a student to “teleport” just outside of the school walls, leaving them permanently inaccessible to the player, which could interfere with genocide / ABC Killer runs. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player used electricity to killed a student who was checking their locker for a note, the student would continue saying their “found a note in my locker” voice lines even as they died. This bug has been fixed.
  • I rarely fix bugs that are only caused by third-party mods, but I made an exception: I’ve fixed a bug that prevented Yandere Vision from working if you were using “Pose Mod” to transform the protagonist into your OC.
  • If the player tried to play a 1980s Mode Mission Mode mission about poisoning Sonoko’s suitor, the mission would be impossible to complete because the boy would never eat lunch. This bug has been fixed.
  • In the “Cyborg Mode” easter egg, it was supposed to be possible to remove the cyborg helmet by pressing the “P” key. This functionality broke at some point. This functionality has now been restored.
  • In the “Ayano stalks Senpai and Rival while they walk to school together” cutscene, Ayano’s head wobbled back and forth instead of looking directly at Senpai/Amai. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player used the “Pass Time” feature and then immediately stopped without entering the 8-bit minigame, the game’s background music would mute itself. This bug has been fixed.
  • When the player opened the pause menu, the “making selection in pause menu” sound effect would play on top of the “opening pause menu” sound effect. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player destroyed all knives in school and then activated SNAP Mode, it would be impossible to proceed forward with SNAP Mode. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player damaged a car battery, saved the game, and then loaded the game, the car battery would not show signs of damage. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player activated the Empty Demon easter egg, male club leaders’ skin would not change to grey, as it was supposed to. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player used debug commands to speed up the game’s credits, the post-credits scene would be sped up, as well. This will no longer be the case.
  • Osana and Amai were not using their unique walk animations during the “walk to school with Senpai” cutscene. This oversight has been corrected.
  • If the player stole Amai’s bento on Monday morning, she would still eat her bento at lunchtime. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player wore a raincoat, the protagonist’s outline would turn white in Yandere Vision. This bug has been fixed.
  • Amai was not wearing her apron during the “walk to school with Senpai” cutscene. This oversight has been corrected.
  • If the player disabled outlines, outlines would not disappear from Raibaru’s socks. This bug has been fixed.
  • Some of the walls in the gymnasium were not properly casting/receiving shadows. This bug has been fixed.
  • Fixed inaccuracies in the subtitles for Osana’s rooftop conversation with Raibaru.
  • Fixed inaccuracies in the subtitles for Osana’s “Befriend/Betray” cutscene.

Known Bug

Amai’s bake sale table is using the wrong texture. Please don’t bother to report this bug. I already know about it. It’ll be fixed in the next build.

By The Way

Today’s bottom-of-the-blog-post fan create spotlight goes to this video by the incredible hatluk, who has been modding the game in all kinds of crazy-impressive ways for 4 years now!

August 5 bug fixing build (archive)
A big update came out recently! You can read about everything that got added to the game by clicking here. However, there were a few significant bugs in that build, so I’m uploading a new build where those issues are resolved.

To read about everything that was added/changed/fixed/improved, scroll down past this gorgeous illustration by seinachan01110!

Fixed Textures

The following models had screwed-up textures, and have been fixed:

  • The folding chairs inside of the Drama Club and backstage are of the gym
  • The power cords for the kitchen appliances in the Cooking Club
  • The table in the “podcast booth” of the Announcement Room
  • The rug inside of the Photography Club’s secret room
  • The microwave in the Home Ec Room
  • The table for Amai’s bake sale

Improvements

  • The stove in the Home Ec room now uses a different texture than the stove in the Cooking Club so that it matches the color scheme of the rest of the Home Ec room.
  • The lighting in Amai’s suicide cutscene was too dark, so I’ve increased the brightness to be comparable with Osana’s suicide cutscene.
  • The white-and-gold folding chair’s texture has been updated.

Fixes

  • So, I went through all of the trouble of adding a search bar to Pose Mode, and then I only tested it within the Unity Editor and never realized that it wasn’t possible to click the search bar outside of the Unity Editor. This oversight has been corrected, and now you can finally use the search bar feature in Pose Mode.
  • If the player pushed over a bookcase in the library, the bookcase’s collider would expand. Afterwards, walking on the north side of the library would cause the player to teleport to the room underneath (the counselor’s office) and become trapped there permanently. This bug has been fixed.
  • The tiny placard on top of Amai’s bake sale table was recognized as a pathfinding obstacle, which interfered with the pathfinding grid and prevented students from smoothly pathfinding to/away from the table. This oversight has been corrected.
  • The table used for Amai’s bake sale was not the correct height, so the little placard on top and the tip jar were both floating in midair. This oversight has been corrected.
  • In the cutscene where Info-chan informs Ayano about Kizana, Ayano and Info-chan’s voice lines were at inconsistent volumes. This oversight has been corrected.
  • Some of the 3D models had weird shadows appearing on them because hard edges were not baked into the models. This oversight has been corrected.
  • The power cord of the Cooking Club’s new toaster was clipping into the kitchen countertop. This oversight has been corrected.

Not A Bug

After updating some of the game’s models, the interior of the Photography Club changed significantly; the “portable walls” that display photographs changed from white to black, which completely changed the look-and-feel of the entire room. This was entirely unintentional, but…I actually really like the way it looks, so I intend to keep it this way from now on!

Bottom-Of-Blog-Post Fan Spotlight

Today’s fan spotlight goes to “KANAOTAKUU” for importing Genshin Impact character models into Yandere Simulator:
https://youtube.com/watch?v=mh7nVB8g6PMThey’ve successfully imported a huge number of characters from Genshin Impact / Honkai: Star Rail / Wuthering Waves into Yandere Simulator, which I really love to see! Their hard work deserves to be acknowledged and recognized, so go check out their channel!

August 12 bug fixing build (archive)
There was one bug in the previous build (the mouse-cursor-visible-onscreen bug) that was so annoying, I decided to upload a new build so that you don’t have to live with it anymore.

Of course, there are also a handful of other adjustments/fixes in the latest build, too. To see a list of everything else that changed, scroll down past this beautiful-yet-sorrowful artwork of Otohiko drawn by Cherry!

Improvements

  • Swapped out Kataba’s old character model for a new one. You can’t really see the difference because she’s quite far away from the camera, but if I implement the “every week, family members are standing in different places around the house doing different things” feature, then there will definitely be times when you see her much more closely.
  • Adjusted the volume levels of Ayano and Info-chan’s voice lines of their “after Osana has been eliminated” conversation.
  • Mantaro’s likes/dislikes didn’t match his character traits/personality, so a couple of them have been changed.
  • Replaced the models for cardboard boxes in the school environment.

Fixes

  • Because Week 3 is not in the game yet, it’s not meant to be possible for the player to load into Week 3. For this reason, loading your save file after watching the “Info-chan tells Ayano about Kizana” cutscene is supposed to send you back into that cutscene. However, due to a bug, loading that save would play a cutscene from Week 1, instead. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player stood in a very specific location in the Drama Club and performed a series of actions involving crouching/standing and entering/exiting first-person mode repeatedly, it would be possible to clip through some of the scenery and get stuck. This bug is no longer possible.
  • If the player entered the “Animation List” in Pose Mode, their mouse cursor would become visible onscreen so that they could click the Search Bar. However, their mouse cursor would remain onscreen permanently afterwards, even after exiting that list. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player designed a Custom Mode playthrough involving a custom uniform texture, pressed “Save” at the main Custom Mode menu, and then pressed “Load” in that same menu, the game would forget to put students into a custom uniform. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player attempted to push a student with “Invincible” Strength into the freezer room, a struggle would begin, even if the player didn’t meet the criteria to have that struggle. This bug has been fixed.
  • In the cutscene where Info-chan warns Ayano about Amai, one of Info-chan’s text messages did not match the corresponding voice line. This oversight has been corrected.
  • In Custom Mode, if the player assigned hairstyle #218 to a student, the incorrect hairstyle would appear once at school. This bug has been fixed.
  • Some of the photo display stands in the Photography Club were using the wrong model/texture. This oversight has been corrected.
  • Some of the school environments models were accidentally turned invisible in the last build. This oversight has been corrected.
  • After Amai’s hair model got updated, her hair clip accessory started floating in midair. This oversight has been corrected.

Bottom-of-the-Blog-Post Fan Spotlight

I’d like to share a very cool mod with you; one of the most elaborate mods I’ve ever seen:
https://youtube.com/watch?v=HqRSDAJzSc4
The creator of this mod is General Cocochoc. I praise their impressive modding ability!

I would call him a scatter brain, but that would be a insult to people who are scattered brained
Its just classic developer procrastination, combined with his mild list autism and "I'll show them" ego. He's always grabbing the newest, lowest hanging fruit, regardless of whether its progressing anything meaningful, so he can add an item to the update list, and prove to everyone just how productive he is, all while avoiding doing the hard unknowns that define real progress.

I'm going to make a bold prediction. The New York Jets will return to the playoffs before Yandere Simulator is finished.
That's basically saying "something that has a slim probability of happening someday in the future is mot likely to happen than something that has no chance of happening at all".

That's basically saying "something that has a slim probability of happening someday in the future is mot likely to happen than something that has no chance of happening at all".
To be fair, I'm talking about the team that has missed the playoffs for over a decade and gave us the Buttfumble:
Come to think of it, YanDev's code could be considered a buttfumble.

September 1 update (archive)
Hey! I’ve uploaded a new build with a lot of improvements over the previous build, and a lot of bug fixes, too!

To read a list of everything that was added/changed/fixed/improved since the last update, please scroll down past this amazing fan-made animation!

New Osana Hair

Osana’s ancient hair model has been replaced with a new hair model! This is how her hair has looked for the past few years:

…and this is what it looks like now:

I think it’s a big improvement!

Notes:

  • Certain cutscenes, such as the intro cutscene, still feature the old hair model. This is because I am waiting to see if there are any bugs with the new hair model before I commit to spreading it all over the game.
  • Her “sidelocks” (the long locks of hair beside her face) now have physics. (Her ribbon does, too, although it’s subtle.)
  • Her “short hair” model has also been updated.
  • I also have a new “low pigtails” variation of her “short hair” model, which may be used at some point in the future. (Perhaps after a few weeks have passed and her hair has begun to grow out again?)

Saturation

Someone pointed out that Yandere Simulator’s graphics seem weirdly desaturated and “washed out.” I’ve been staring at Yandere Simulator for so long that the game simply looked “normal” to me…but, after messing around with the saturation settings, I feel like it really does look a lot better if I increase the saturation!

So, in this build…instead of looking like this:

Yandere Simulator now looks like this:

If people complain and say “Ew looks gross!” I’ll change it back. But, if nobody dislikes it, I think it’ll remain this way!

Improvements

  • Under the previous “socializing with a student” system, a student’s response to a compliment would depend on both their Persona and player’s reputation; there were a total of 54 different lines of dialogue for a student’s response for a compliment. However, when I implemented the new “socializing” feature, this giant array of reputation-dependent responses disappeared, and students only responded to your compliments with a single generic response. I fixed this; the 54 Persona-and-Reputation-specific responses are now back!
  • Re-wrote Ajia’s profile and also the text that appears for her in the “Death Demon” easter egg to establish her as a character who is concerned about foreign influence on Japan gradually erasing Japan’s cultural identity, rather a character who supports nationalism or imperialism or Japan’s actions during WW2.
  • From now on, if you approach a workbench with the materials necessary to craft a bodybag – while on a save file where you’ve selected “don’t need to craft bodybags” as a difficulty option – you’ll receive a notification at the top of the screen reminding you that you don’t need to craft bodybags.
  • Updated the eyes of Dozuki’s character model. (I know that her face is barely visible in the current build, but in future weeks, she might appear in different places around the house, where her eyes would be much more visible.)
  • Senpai now carries a plate of sandwiches to Amai’s picnic event, his sandwiches appear at the picnic, and the picnic food disappears once the picnic event is over.
  • Adjusted Yaku’s likes and dislikes to be more consistent with the text written about him on the official website, and also his behavior and dialogue in-game.
  • If a character is “Sent Home” (receives an alarming text message that causes them to run out of school) they will now ignore being splashed with liquid.
  • Characters will now refuse to perform the “Distract” favor if the student they have been asked to Distract is currently inside of a shower building.
  • Increased the volume of some of Info-chan’s “initial conversation with Ayano” voice lines.
  • Adjusted Ichirou’s birth year in the timeline segment of the “True Ending” cutscene.
  • Increased the volume of some of Info-chan’s Mission Mode voice lines.
  • Gave the Yakuza a new “leaning against wall” animation.
  • Replaced the Yakuza’s character model.
  • Otohiko now has hair physics.

By The Way

If you’re thinking “Now that Info-chan’s voice lines are louder, Ayano’s sound too quiet by comparison!” or, “Info-chan’s voice lines got TOO loud!” just wait until the next build; It’ll be fixed.

Fixes

  • If the player asked any student to distract Gema Taku or Shinako Bunzai before completing that student’s task, the student would react negatively and refuse to do so. This bug has been fixed. (However, there is an exception – the bullies will refuse to distract Gema before he has changed his appearance. After he has changed his appearance, they will agree to distract him.)
  • If Amai, Taro, and the gym teacher simultaneously witnessed Ayano commit murder before she had walked through the school gate, Ayano would enter this weird state where she was reacting to Senpai as if he was giving her a game over, while being apprehended by the gym teacher. This bug has been fixed.
  • In the “Kokona invites Ayano to help the Drama Club rehearse a school play” cutscene, the colors of the interior of the Drama Club were wrong, and props that should have been visible weren’t visible. Also, Kokona’s club accessory was missing. These oversights have been corrected.
  • If a student took a photo of the player committing murder and then attacked the player, the student would not drop their smartphone upon death, making it impossible for the player to destroy all evidence that they had committed a crime. This bug has been fixed.
  • In the Kokona Tutorial, if the player used up the car battery in the electrocution tutorial without successfully killing Kokona, the car battery would never be repaired, making it impossible to ever finish the electrocution tutorial. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player used the “Life Note” easter egg to electrocute Raibaru during a scripted event, Raibaru would not enter the electrocution animation, but everyone around her would react to her as if she was dying of electrocution. This bug has been fixed.
  • Only on Sundays (when Ryoba can walk around her house in her pajamas) it was possible for Ryoba to interact with button prompts inside of Ayano’s room that shouldn’t have been accessible, and teleport inside of Ayano’s room. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player left a note in Raibaru’s locker to arrange a 3:30 PM meeting with her on Monday, Raibaru would enter her 3:30 PM event with Osana and her 3:30 meeting with you simultaneously, leading to weird behavior. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player spoke to the guidance counselor while interacting at Amai’s Bake Sale, Amai and that student (and all other students who subsequently showed up at the bake sale) would freeze. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player got pushed by a delinquent while cleaning a weapon at a sink, the player would get stuck in the “cleaning weapon” and “fighting delinquent” states simultaneously. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player attempted to set the game’s resolution larger than their computer monitor, the player could encounter an error when attempting to re-launch the game. This should no longer be possible.
  • A Cooking Club student who decided to go home instead of attending club activities would enter the Cooking Club and then walk in place indefinitely. This bug has been fixed.
  • In the “Alternate Timeline / Happy Ending Timeline,” if Ryoba made bodybags immediately after making a stink bomb, the game would softlock. This bug has been fixed.
  • At some point in the past, the scrolling background in the Yakuza menu disappeared! I have no idea how I didn’t notice this until now! This oversight has been corrected.
  • If the player pushed over a bookcase, the protagonist would lose sanity even if the bookcase didn’t actually kill anyone. This oversight has been corrected.
  • Years ago, I updated the school plaza with new props, but never updated the title screen to reflect the new props. This oversight has been corrected.
  • When the school environment was updated, some of the props in the guidance counselor’s office disappeared. This oversight has been corrected.
  • If the player killed Raibaru, all students in the school would stop offering a task to the player. This bug has been fixed.
  • The bookshelves in the Rival Bakery environment were using the wrong meshes + textures. This oversight has been corrected.
  • When Ryoba spoke to the Yakuza, the game’s depth-of-field effect would not re-focus properly. This bug has been fixed.
  • I said “I restored Pippi’s original socks” but her socks didn’t actually change. They should actually be correct now.
  • Attempted to fix a rare bug that would cause the game to open with a resolution of 0x0 and never become resizable.
  • A carpet in the Stalker House environment was using the wrong texture. This oversight has been corrected.
  • Amai’s reputation will now drop whenever a student eats poisoned food from her bake sale.
  • Amai’s hair texture was not displaying properly on her hair. This has been fixed.

Bottom-of-the-Blog-Post Fan Spotlight

A long time ago, I had an idea. First, I would implement four easter eggs that were each dedicated to a specific element – Tornado Mode, Flame Demon Mode, Ice Fairy Cirno Mode, and an unreleased easter egg mode where the player would attack students with thorny vines. Then, I planned to add a sort of “Ultimate Mode” where the player could use all of the powers of the four element-themed easter eggs.

In the end, I decided to de-prioritize easter eggs and focus more on the core game, so that concept never came to fruition. However, recently, a fan of the game created a “Weather Goddess” mod that is remarkably similar to that ancient concept I had! It’s very cool! Take a look!

What’s Next?

Over the summer, I was fortunate enough to become acquainted with several very talented voice actors who have recorded a lot of voice lines for the game – both male and female!

A great deal of my time over the summer was spent reviewing their lines, giving them feedback, and “coaching” them to become able to produce the exact voices that I imagine for the characters. It’s a very time-consuming process, but if it results in a fully-voice cast of characters, the investment will be well worth it!

At this point in time, I hesitate to say, “Hey, great news everyone! This character officially has a new voice actor!” …because, in my mind, nothing is “final” until I’ve put all the new voice lines in-game, and I’m 100% satisfied with how everything sounds.

Over the next 2 weeks, my priority will be to add the voice lines I’m already satisfied with, and work together with the voice actors to improve the voice lines that I’m not yet satisfied with. By the 15th, I think I should probably be able to tell you which of these new voice actors are here to stay or not. Exciting stuff!

Thank you for following the development of Yandere Simulator!

Every update log that comes out makes me wonder what his God-forsaken jenga tower of code looks like now, even after witnessing the over 20k-line student script.

Demand for voice actors must be real bad if he's still finding help for him of all people with this shit.
