This is a possibility I've considered. The big problem is as AI becomes more advanced, will they be able to control it? I can see it developing it's own morality system, which I doubt would place the billionaire class as morally above a peon. Are the billionaires willing to place all of their eggs in a brand new basket that they don't know 100% will hold all of their eggs? So they have to keep the masses somewhat happy and existing. At this point I think they realize that they can't control a 3rd world underclass. So they might keep Whities around as a backup plan. So if they're going to continue to exist, then they have to reproduce.
