Anything that someone can obtain legally is already possessed by the “bad guys” gang members, drug dealers etc.

You know in the USA you can go to the gun store and buy a semi auto AK, right? People buy them because they look like what people in the military use and they can be modded for full auto.

People buy AK-47s because AKs are fun. Because the platform is tried and true. Do you know how many AK platform things exist? What do civilians need with military style 4x4 trucks? Why, we only need FWD. If you want to talk solely about the AK, can you point me to a non-3rd World military that still uses the AK? And no, no talking about the modernized AK platform variants. Those are essentially ARs built around an AK system.

Not everyone is a LARPer. In fact, a lot of people understand that military grade is shittier than civvy grade in almost every single facet.
If I needed to shoot and you offered me an issued M4 with a giggle option or a standard AR semi from a nice place, I'd take the AR.
