Yet the first Christians were Jewish, and our Messiah is also Jewish, and affirmed the old testament. Again, for the Christian, the Old Testament is a history of the faith from the start of time, and a study in the character of God, whereas to the Jew, it is a history, a study of God, and law. That last bit is a key difference.

The people who go to mega churches don't have views about pastors. i think you're missing the forest for the trees. The people willing to attend a church service in an auditorium with 1000 people are not the kind of people concerned with the social structure of a local church and how they fit into it, they are not looking at the world at the same scale that you are. They are concerned with a much more superficial reality where they primary concern is making sure that they're doing the things everybody else is doing and making sure the kids have the things everyone else has. They're basically just jews, really. The pastor is simply the guy on the stage when they're At Church, which they go to every week because they are a Good Christian. They've gone to church since they were a little kid and have no intention of ever stopping, but they have absolutely no clue what a Nicene Creed is.

While all worshipers are the figurative "flock" of sheep, megachurch members are also that in a literal sense. They don't think anything beyond going to church because "that's what you're supposed to do." It's like a High School trend that no one grows out of. Like a hairstyle or brand of jeans or shoes that if you don't have, you're a loser. Everyone they associate with on a personal level goes and they raise eyebrows and suspicions about anyone who doesn't.

And what could make them feel wrong? There's 1000's to 10's of 1000's of others there. The production levels are on par with any arena music act, and they get told they're good boys and girls for attending and donating (regularly).

In this sense, I at least respect the mormon grift. They make no bones about it and will erect a fucking temple in your 'hood to assert dominance paid for by their 15% tithing.

The whole Bible belongs to Christians who are the owners of the covenants and their history. That's why it's laughable when jews claim to be gods chosen people when they gave up that title thousands of years ago. The modern Israel for instance has no biblical roots at all. The Palestinians are more connected to the old testament by faith and history than modern jewry.

Depends on what value you place on existence I guess. You can buy into the ‘suffering makes life worthwhile’ narrative or you could be like ‘yeah but without free will I’d never even be able to feel anything but fulfilled so it wouldn’t matter’.

This is in reference to the Epicurean paradox no? I talked with a bible scholar who had a PHD and his counterargument was that Gods logic is different than ours and that you need blind faith. He provided an example of blind faith like trusting in the chair being able to hold you up and whatnot. It still seems like it's a bunch of shit since you can just make shit up and then say that you need blind faith. The problem is that you can clearly define where your blind faith extends (human logic, what you can interact with, etc) and where it doesn't extend (god, ghosts, etc).

When I say "negating their existence" what I mean is that if humanity had no free will and could only be good, then they are not truly culpable or responsible for their righteousness, which extends into a deeper question of if that could even be considered righteousness.
