Stupid friend of mine watched youtube vids years ago. Decided to become a fine ol' good ol' boy. Moved himself to the country. Bought 20 acres, got some cows, pigs, etc. Tried to farm. I remember him saying, "you put fucking seeds in the ground man, how are you this stupid? how do you not know this?"

Yeah. All the livestock got sick and died and he couldn't grow anything and was too lazy to keep up with the 20 acres. Eventually the bank took it all. I think the youtubers also turned out to be fake asses like always..

People shouldn't expect easy money necessarily when it comes to farming, though at a large-scale operation and with enough labor it can get that way. There is a lot of work, often not hard but tedious, you have to keep track of and if the person isn't staying on top of things on a day to day basis they'll get themselves into a situation like your friend did.

Farmers sometimes get pretty nice treatment from government authorities but it's an occupation where most can't afford to stay idle, there is often always something to do during planting season (everyday if there are animals to feed constantly), maintenance costs in case something breaks down, needing to pay for fertilizer, there is crop insurance to buy or not to buy and one has to hope or pray that the weather is good for a season.

I'll say this, my wife and I, being old fucks like we are, enjoy gardening. We do it reg. We know a good deal about it (for our area) and get a decent little haul every year. Best thing to do would be to invest a metric fuck ton ($1 trillion+) into thorium based nuclear reactors globally, only problem is those things require plutonium to work. To create plutonium you need U-238 to get irradiated once and it will undergo double beta decay. The country with the largest thorium reserves is India by the way.
