I wouldn't blame them. Not sure why it didn't happen sooner, but considering how coddled Andy was for his life it's not exactly surprising that he was able to get away with his bullshit for so long. When you fail to sell more than seven books at a con, so mommy buys your entire stock and you count that as a complete sell out, you have something seriously wrong with you.

It would explain why there are no reported sightings of him in public, if he were in a non-English-speaking country with spotty internet, the locals wouldn't know him for anything besides being a random gringo expat, which are already common enough. Maybe he also wanted a chance at an "easy" wife too but again this is pure speculation, no real evidence.

I'll just add to this: even in Thailand or Philippines, it's fairly easy to get by without learning the local tongue. If you stick to the capital or touristy areas of SEA, for example, you can easily get by with just English and a smattering of the local tongue. Gringos like him are easy money, and most know enough broken English to conduct basic transactions, all the better to fleece the nice white lady who wanted ten of your trinkets. Or Dobbo, in this case.

That said, with an ego like Dobbo, it's near impossible to think that he could stay off the internet this long voluntarily.

He's spent the past decade+ being a fucking loser, mocked by anyone and everyone online while making negative grounds on advancing his art career. That has to have worn him down.

I like to think he's had a come to Jesus moment, whether on his on volition or encouraged by friends/family, touched some grass, and is living a mundane normie life now.

Considering how little he changed compared to how he was on deviantart in 2005 and how he was on tumblr right before he left, I'd say that's correct. He probably still doesn't understand why entering a store with a closed sign was wrong of him. Why the people doing the Samus commission were right to point out how shit he was as a commissioned artist. Or even why his old boss was pissed at him for falling asleep 'for just a minute'.

I was under the impression that Dobbro was trying to get a government job and Dobson being Dobson cost him that chance. Regardless, if you work for the government in any capacity they'll get on you if you have family saying or doing stupid things.

I suppose, but I don't see how Dobbro could have lost a gig for two reasons: first, Dobbro and Andrew are not the same people. If Andrew was doing some silly shit and Dobbro had nothing to do with it, the government doesn't typically punish individuals for guilt by association. It can happen, of course, but all Dobbro would have to do is not associate with Andrew. "Hey, Mr. G-Man, that's my brother. I don't agree with him or live with him, he does his own thing." As long as there's no security concern, the government doesn't wouldn't really care. Second, "Dobson" is a pretty common last name. It's not like the family has a unique or branded surname, or like Andrew was himself an influential person. Andrew saying dumb shit could be contained.

Of course I could be wrong, but I continue to not believe that Andrew had the ability to ruin his brother's career. Dobbro went from working at NBC10 (a local news channel) to a director position with Nexstar Media in Washington DC, which isn't a demotion.

Had a high school friend who joined the Army... and further went into intel.

When they did the background check for his security clearance? They had officers going back to the street he and I used to race our trucks on to verify with residents that yes, they remember him doing that in the exact same years he said he lived there.

They are ANAL about it.

And having a loony relative, through no fault of your own? Can DEFINATELY sink you if you're trying for top-tier clearance, like "I get to take that one freeway exit in Virginia that anyone else gets arrested for" tier stuff. NSA-tier stuff.

But there's no evidence to collaborate it.

I still agree it was probably some dire social faux pas that ruined his bro's reputation by proxy. Like a prospective client or employer putting the wrong "Dobson" in a search engine, seeing all the blue-bear horrors and bailing before anyone had a chance to tell them the mistake.

I'm still amazed that Dobson hasn't evaded whatever put the ban on him. Either by will or by technicality? He's been knocked offline for good, and an egoist like him would never be able to not plan a way "back" that wouldn't work just a bit over the course of this many years.

The longer his exile goes on? The more and more realistic the incarcerated/institutionalized possibility seems to be, at least to me.

The only reason he hasn't come back to the internet has got to be because he can't. Right?

Even in this example, the background checkers were concerned about the guy racing himself - not that he hung out with truck racers. There is a degree of separation there, but you are correct about the level to which feds will dig when doing background checks.

So my husband used to work with a guy that was ex government worker, this guy worked for them in the late 80s and early 90s. The day before he was going to start the job he was on his front porch talking with his girlfriend. The next day when he started he was shown a file with all of his background, in that file was a picture of him with his girlfriend on the front porch.
