WASHINGTON/TEL AVIV/ISTANBUL, June 24 (Reuters) - Iranian and Israeli media reported new Israeli airstrikes on Iran on Tuesday, despite U.S. President Donald Trump having said Israel had called them off at his command to preserve an hours-old ceasefire.

Two explosions were heard in the capital, the judiciary news outlet Mizan reported. Israeli army radio said Israel had struck an Iranian radar site near Tehran.

The strikes took place minutes after Trump said Israel had called off its attack in response to his command.

"All planes will turn around and head home, while doing a friendly 'Plane Wave' to Iran. Nobody will be hurt, the Ceasefire is in effect!" Trump said in a post on Truth Social.

Trump had earlier accused both Israel and Iran of violating the ceasefire, while expressing particular frustration with Israel which had announced major new strikes on Tehran.

"Israel. Do not drop those bombs. If you do it it is a major violation. Bring your pilots home, now!" Trump wrote on Truth Social shortly after he left the White House for a trip to a NATO summit in The Hague.

Before boarding, Trump told reporters he was "not happy" with either side for violating the truce, but particularly with Israel, which he said had launched huge strikes in response to a single missile launch which might have been unintentional.

"I've got to get Israel to calm down now," Trump said as he left the White House.

Iran and Israel had been fighting "so long and so hard that they don't know what the fuck they're doing," he said before turning away from cameras and heading to his helicopter.

Israeli media reported that Trump spoke to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu by phone. A reporter for Axios said that Netanyahu had told Trump that Israel would scale back the bombing mission rather than cancel it. There was no immediate word from Netanyahu's office.

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz had said earlier on Tuesday that he had ordered the military to mount new strikes on targets in Tehran in response to what he said were Iranian missiles fired in a "blatant violation" of the ceasefire.

Iran denied launching any missiles and said Israel's attacks had continued for an hour and a half beyond the time the ceasefire was meant to start.

This to any rational actor working at it from the Israeli perspective is the moment. If they do not accomplish getting the U.S. into a regime change war with Iran under Trump they will not get the possibility to do so again, at least not for a questionable amount of time. What remains to be seen now is if they have the political leverage to make it happen and if so if they slow-walk it or sprint towards it.

My theory thus far is that Trump is attempting to maneuver through this the way he did with the other flare-up instances in the M.E. not realizing the above context I've pointed out. Israel isn't going to take 'no' for an answer on this one, Iran is too important and this opportunity too fleeting. Much like with the Oct 7th attacks and using that as an opportunity for the destruction/depopulation of Gaza.

I reiterate this isn't some wishcasting nonsense, I am saying this as a result of looking at the situation from how I would view it, from what's publicly observable, as someone on the side of the Israeli government. They have even more information available that I'm sure makes this, in all likelihood, even more dire that they act now to have this happen.

remains to be seen if Israel is willing to go along with Trump and shelve this shit for now, but I won't be surprised if they treat this as they did the Oct 7th attacks and go all-in on starting a war with Iran. There hasn't been, and won't be again, an opportunity this ripe to do it. And they've wanted this war since at least Clinton's term in office.

I will add that if Trump does tell them completely to fuck off he does deserve some measure of props for that, letting Israel start this fight then leave them to deal with it themselves from that point forward would be an incredibly hilarious move.

Are there any historical examples of Israel cooling their jets and not pressing the attack in a situation like this? I'm fuckin stupid and ignorant so I don't know the history well enough but if there is a precedent of the Israelis de escalating a conflict, maybe there is hope of peace

None that come to mind. It's not entirely out of the realm of possibility though, if Trump does in fact have reason not to care about whatever leverage they may or may not have, he theoretically has the capacity to just end this shit right now by refusing to aid Israel further in its aims.

Remember that they need the U.S. in order to attain their aims in this conflict. So, again, if whatever political fuckery they have up their sleeves that has gotten them this far isn't enough to force things over the tipping point, it'll stall, and fall backwards on their faces. What they need is for things to escalate to the point that Trump has sent in men or prepared to, if it takes too long or Trump stonewalls successfully (which is the same thing, really) they'll lose the capacity to make their aims materialize.

I can't make it clear enough however how important Iran being toppled is to them. This is the country for them to have wrecked with U.S. might. None of the others are even close, not Iraq, not Afghanistan, not Libya, not Syria.
 
This was my worry on Trump getting involved on this one. It’s pretty clear Israel won’t be stopping, so I hope he has the poise to avoid getting dragged into the ground war Israel clearly wants to rope us into. If he fails, his support will be effectively destroyed.

Trump is the best president at brinksmanship in my lifetime so I’m holding out hope, but this can go south real quick.

The Suez Crisis is the one that comes to my mind. Long story short, Israel was working with Britain & France to assfuck Egypt after Arab nationalists overthrew the pro-British monarchy & nationalized the Suez Canal there, and they were winning - the Israelis took the Sinai & Gaza for their part - but Eisenhower told them all to fuck off, threatening to buckbreak the British economy in the process, and the anti-Egyptian alliance folded. That political defeat hurt Britain more than it did Israel though, it basically spelled the end of British influence being dominant in the Middle East, while Israel was left seething for a while like France but proceeded to retake Sinai from the Egyptians (who expressed their gratitude for being saved by 'Murica by becoming pro-Soviet) later in the Six-Day War anyway.
 
Not fond of trump on many policies but one of the few good things I keep telling people about him is that he is against hot wars. Israel wouldn't be this fucking gunho if the US wasn't backing them. I really hope he does tell the Israelis to fuck off and leave the middle east to solve their own fucking problems.

LMFAO, dude got humiliated by his precious Jews not even twenty four hours after bragging about his ceasefire. I wonder how much of this Trump will take before his narcissism outweighs his kike worship? As for Iran, not surprised they ignored the ceasefire, but they also aren't ostensibly America's butt buddy. What I am surprised about is that Israel just spit in Trump's face, when in reality they could have made a big show about wanting peace and unity, then get predictably sucker punched by Iran, and use that chance to kvetch and feign victimhood to justify retaliations.
 
I remember when a certain Vladimir did a surprise attack under Donald's nose against his whishes, and it immediately evaporated all excuses of "he's a russian agent/puppet"-yaddayadda when the Cornhair in Chief told that Vlad that he's a lunatic. Then Ukraine did a little trolling, humiliating Russia.

Now with the kikes doing the exact same thing of ignoring Donald, I'm positively 🌈 that he's going to leave Israel without US toys (like the iron dome munition).

Here's two plausible ways how this can go:
  1. Netanyahu caves in to Donny's demands and stops this remote slap fight, and secretly kills the Ayatollah when things cool down.
  2. Iran nukes Israel the picosecond the US is no longer keeping the kike state defended.
Both are funny as fuck outcomes for me, and a net positive for the middle east.
