What do you think drives prices more? Demand or labor cost? The difference in labor cost is pocketed by the construction company -it raises their profit margin. Whether they send you an all-American workforce or a mixed bag of illegals and US citizens, they'll ask the same price.
But there is a limited amount of housing space available on the market. And way too many people looking for housing. That is what significantly drives prices, not labor cost. Having more illegals makes the situation worse.

If you were right (if you really did understand economics, which you don't), housing prices would not fluctuate once the real estate has been constructed. But that's simply not reality.

Labor cost are always the largest expense in most, if not all businesses. It's basic business knowledge.

Yes, and if a construction company isn't making money from building houses, what will they do? This is how capitalism works. Everything is about profit. If home construction is expensive due to high labor/material cost, then that business will dry up.



Net profit margins are already low compared to other markets. Take away cheap labor and hire some soft zoomer to do roofing and electrical work isn't going to work out very well.

There's a good reason why homes in States with no construction unions have cheap homes (mostly republican areas). A combination of cheap construction, low demand, and location all contribute to this.

The core issue is a lack of housing due to the expense of building a home and the profit margins that construction companies actually face. Labor cost is a tiny fraction of the home cost. Deporting illegals will result in a massive surplus of housing. New construction will be a little more expensive to build but builders would be unable to pass on their increased costs due to competition from existing houses.

It's also not like they ever passed on the savings from using unskilled labor. On top of paying inflated prices, homeowners often have to pay tens of thousands of dollars to fix builder mistakes that would have been avoided if the builder had hired actual tradesmen.
