The perspective fiscal conservatives advocate for is understandable but it isn't very attractive politically, especially if spending cuts start effecting things used by sizable portions of the country. Wasteful funding needs to be eliminated but the GOP needs to move with surgical precision and focus on the matter.

What I think is most frustrating is the GOP has a razor-thin advantage right now in Congress and there are sitting members of the party willing to piss it away for principles that serve no purpose. Let's say the fiscal hawks get what they want. Do they think that will redound to the party's benefit in 2026 or 2028? I don't think so.
