One big issue is that the social normalization of constant junk food, candy, and processed shit is enormous.
Even if you cook all your kids food, once they go to school or to another kids house all bets are off. Other kids will give them doritos, the schools themselves served processed slop.
Some people even say they don't feed their kid processed foods but they're eating froot loops, granola (candy) bars, chips, and a bunch of other unhealthy garbage with 50 ingredients.
My sibling once got a complaint from my nieces school because I was packing her lunch and loaded it with olives, carrots, good quality cheese, hardboiled eggs, an orange and some cured meat. All stuff my niece liked and ate at home.
The school complained because a dessert and bread or whole grain product had not been included and thus it could be considered insufficient. They recommended adding a cookie, or goldfish crackers.
My response was - what the fuck business is it of theirs what my niece eats? And why does a kid need a dessert at lunch time? Every day?
My sister did tell them to fuck off and that my niece wouldn't eat those things anyway, but eventually my niece started using her allowance to buy school lunches so she wouldn't feel "different".
Coincidence or not, she started gaining unhealthy weight soon after.
It's a constant battle.
I seriously hope this can be tackled by RFK Jr and Co because it's a serious fucking problem. Right as kids taste is developing they're given pure shit starting as soon as preschool, or even in some cases processed baby food or formula. It starts early and never stops.
