We have two threads, which I very much enjoy, complaining about fashion and some of the horrific things that have come out from it. But I am missing a place where we can discuss the things we like and enjoy. Everything is welcome, be it clothing, shoes or boots or accessories.

I like leather! Be it boots or jackets, I'm always on the look out for well manufactured goods in thrift stores but have also bought new. I especially like exotic leathers (for boots or belts) like ostrich, caiman, sting-ray or python.

I also really like cowboy boots. I have one pair made from calf skin. It is an entry level boot, but I have worn it for around 3 years so far and am more then happy. The supply of boots, especially nice ones, are quite limited where I live, but one day, I will own a nice pair of lizard skin boots...



As for pants I used to buy stuff like Jack and Jones, because they were a bit cheaper then Levi's but they always got destroyed after a year or so. Now I thrift all my pants, pay less then half for them and get indestructible Levi's that are better cut and keep their color better.

I also really like wrist watches.

I'm not trying to shit on OP here, but what is the appeal of cowboy boots if you're not a cowboy or from Texas? I've never understood it.

Anyone here into egl or other j-fashion? /cgl/ has long been infected and dead but now that the corpse is finally in the grave I figure it wouldn't be a bad time to see if there's anyone left. It's hard to find people who like cute fashion that isn't kawaii Amazon junk, who aren't cow-like in their behavior/beliefs.

I used to be a dedicated sweetfag but I'm more into subdued classic stuff now and prefer dark colors. I'm pretty picky about what I actually wear and keep an intentionally small wardrobe, but I do have a fairly broad range of admiration for the fashion. Outside of egl I also like nanchatte seifuku and a lot of generic uncategorizable cute casual styles with cutsews and skirts and the like.

Many of them are very well constructed and can last you 20 years if you resole them. They offer a wide range of leathers and styles which have been proven to work for many decades. I like boots and they are just some if the best you can get. I don't particularly like all the traditional stitching but that just comes with many of them. Personally I prefere a clean shaft, but they usually are covered by pants anyways.
I also like Chelsea boots (or similar styles).

Egl = elegant gothic lolita, or more simply lolita fashion. The name origin is somewhat unclear and there is a mix of people freaking out about it, people insisting it's actually 100% unrelated to Nabokov's Lolita/lolicon and just a weird coincidence because lolita fashion is ackshyually a feminist fashion invented to own the males, and legit perverts who get drawn to it because of course they do, but at the end of the day it's just clothes with no "secret meaning". Japan gets weird with names and translations, not that deep.

Nanchatte seifuku (nanchatte meaning something like, "just kidding") is Japanese high school uniform-inspired outfits for fun basically, often blazer-styled ones. Btw, the stereotypical seifuku in cosplay and anime is based on what's usually for middle schoolers, I wouldn't really count those kinds of cheap costumes.

Yeah, I'd say so. They aren't the best and their is a lot of nuance, but generally they are well above your average shoe or boot.
The good ones are still at least partially handmade, using high quality leathers, superior stitching (good year welt, for example) and sole construction, giving you rigidity and putting your foot into a good position.
Cowboy boots can also generally be separated into work and dress boot, with the main difference being looks, leather quality and comfort. Square toes and lower heels for example are more comfortable and better if you want to actually work or walk long distances.

If you are looking for the best of the best (in the category of sturdyness and production quality) you are probably looking at pacific north west style boots. But I don't have any personal experiance with them, it's just something I have heard. They are extreme heavy duty boots made for loggers, firemen, etc. Apparently they are a bitch to break in and can quickly cost you $600.

Yeah, that's true. The closest remaining clothing would be a trench coat but as you said, massive school shooter vibes. As for fur hats, we'd need to bring back hats in general first. I think some can be very nice, but I probably wouldn't were one.

I think they generally well dressed, but I kind of get the ick with school uniforms being worn by adult women. But maybe thats just me. I like the last one though! It falls nicely and I like the white accents.

I've been wearing my big stompy 79 dollar boots since last year. No major wear and tear yet compared to $100+ shitty black leather combat boots that split if you even try to walk in them. Brazos are extremely well made, I've even ran in them.

Are they genuine leather? They look like it. Incredible how they can push the price that low. They apparently also have steel toe boots which would be great for work. The ones I have are some cheap ugly shoes I got from my workplace. Might be worth while getting a nicer pair.

I'm a chronic overdresser. Loath as I am to use Pinterest buzzwords, I'm a big fan of the whole Dark Academia look, but since I live in a blast furnace I can't usually muster anything more than a button-up and slacks. Maybe it's for the best that I'm not allowed to wear a trench coat for more than two months of the year.

Anyone have good experiences with thrifting/vintage resellers? I've been amassing a collection of patterned suit jackets (which I almost never get to put on).

I'm not into egl specifically, but I am a huge fan of visual kei. Clothes that make someone look like a JRPG protagonist are cool as fuck to me. It's also all the things I like about punk/goth styles, but without all the tranny politics.

Interesting, because the main thing I hear about DM's is that their construction quality is not very good. Didn't think they would last so long. Did you get them resoled? (Not sure if that's even a possibility with DMs. I really like the look of the brown ones. I have never seen them, but I think they look better then the standard black version.

I do quite a lot of thrifting and have had almost only good experiences. I mainly do it physically, going to some good stores when visiting my parents. I have also bought stuff on Depop and also only had a good experience. The only thing that sucks when doing it online is that you never really know if it will fit you and, at least with Depop, their is no returning of the item.

I am currently looking for a briefcase or weekender type bag made from leather but can't find any that I like. I found some nice ones online, but it's something I'd like to thrift, because of the price. It needs to be large enough to fit a laptop and a couple of books. I currently use a backpack, which I like, but when wearing some jackets it rubs against the tissue of the the jacket (shoulders and lower back) which is visible.
I'm looking for something like this, but it's too expensive to justify the purchase (this one is like $500)



@ThePozzedOutCritic I could see greatcoats make a comeback. As for trench coats I think they can be non cringe to wear. I don't have one, but I think that wearing a nice suit under it could make for a great look, which wouldn't invoke school-shooter vibes. I also like trench coats because you often have several layers to them, like the small cape like thing on the back, the collar, etc.

I’ve noticed that popular brands will get bought up and the quality goes down due to greed associated with the new owners exploiting the brand name, but the original founder or manufacturer will still keep creating a quality product under a different name. For example, doc martens. I don’t own a pair but people who have purchased them recently (in the last few years) say they are uncomfortable now. I enjoy the style, so I’m thinking of trying Solovair. Supposedly Solovair is the original manufacturer of doc martens.

Has anyone heard of or tried Solovair?

Didn't know of them, but they have very nice boots. I'd get a pair of their Chelsea-Boots if they were available in my country. I don't like ordering them online. You just never know if they fit.

One thing I'd recommend you get too, is a good shoe shining set. Get a horsehair brush, a cloth and shoe cream. When you get nice shoes you must treat them well. I have a cream that rehydrates leather and another that has pigment and is wax-based. One should suffice. I have also seen that they sell their own shoe creams, so you might as well go with theirs too.

Saphir is an old and very reputable brand. They also sell care products for other more expensive/exotic leathers. I'll have to get one for my ostrich leather belt.
