To me, that's the problem. During the transition from Obama to Trump, politics went from being something only the grown-ups followed, to becoming a part of pop-culture. The 2016 election season spawned so many memes, and generated so much discussion online, that the Internet never really went back. And everyone in the country put the battle for political ideals at the center of their thinking, and at the center of their creative works, both corporate and independent.
S&P500 line being pumped doesn't benefit the average person to any significant degree. People care about the cost of living, they care about whether they and their children will be able to buy a house, they care about mentally ill sexual deviants telling their children that ackshually they might want to get a head start on chemically castrating themselves because they happen to like playing with dolls instead of cars at the ripe old age of 5, they care about niggers with a phonebook criminal record roaming the streets freely, they care about their neighborhoods being flooded by fentanyl and variously shaded niggers ranging from clithunting Somalians to unironic MS13 Satan worshippers.

I’d say your analysis tends towards the cynical interpretation of events, but can’t hold that against anyone.
