I was reminded, today, of a little discussion that I've previously had in the Rowling Derangement Syndrome thread about the word 'isekai' and, to a greater extent, the slow, embarrassing encroachment of gratuitous, often unnecessary Japanese into the English language.

Isekai is a Japanese genre with a particular set of tropes and features, rooted in Japanese culture, that largely don't apply to the Narniad, except in such a superficial and generic way that the term would also encompass Gulliver's Travels, The Divine Comedy, The Odyssey, and possibly even The Travels of Marco Polo. It'd be like calling King Kong a kaiju movie.

Isekai just means 'other world'. It can be applied to anything that fits that criteria, it's not unique to Japan or anything, they were just the first to coin a term for such a thing.
There's tons of western media that can be classified as it, since the only criteria is the main character is taken/reincarnated/transported etc into another world. Alice in Wonderland is an Isekai, Space Jam, Wizard of Oz, the Jumanji with the Rock and so on.

There seems to be a weird faction of Western nerds who insist on using Japanese terms for things, usually things that are not in the least bit exclusive to Japan or Japanese culture.

I still remember them on TV Tropes, genuinely trying to make 'nakama' happen, because "We don't have a word for it in English."

Because people don't. That's why you had to waste the next fucking sentence explaining to normal people who've known the touch of a woman what a fucking 'isekai' is. And now, every fucking normal, functioning human being on the planet is reading that sentence wondering why the fuck you're talking about anime in a review of the fucking Minecraft movie with Jack Black. A live action movie, based on a video game, that has nothing to do with anime.

The internet as of today. For the longest time I always tried to tell myself that I'm just older and that me messing the older times is because I was a lot younger in a brighter mindset, I still think it's the case (though a very tiny bit of it) but fucking hell how do we get here?
Politics is getting harder to avoid each day and it's very tiresome to hear "Trump bad" or the slightly more uncommon "Trump good" it's just exhausting. It's very easy to get flooding with this shit on YT and I had to nuke 2 YT accounts because of it. And now I just avoid some youtubers that talk about Politics here and there or else my feed is ruined (even when I click "not interested" it doesn't really do much).

Coomerism is also very massive and is very easy to get into your feed if your not careful since just adding a bit of coomer bait to anything seems to be accepted, look at the modern popular games, almost all anime and many more I am forgetting. How can you enjoy this shit? it's just coom bait, not even real coom content. And I hate it more when it's done by the LGBT since calling it out will give you the "so your okay with all the straight stuff hm?" or however it goes and no faggot retard I don't like any of it.

And also seeing things just get more restricted and restricted each day, rucka rucka ali just got purged from pretty much everywhere and worse part that it's not only him that will take this hit, more old internet history will get deleted and it's depressing. At least I am archiving the stuff I wanna keep safe that I fear will go away but the fact that it got here is sad though.

And the last thing I wanna say that things just feel overall worse and I just wanna vent that out since I feel like I have been lying to myself about the state of the internet, or honestly world in general, been using the internet less and less since I feel like that's the right course of action. The last time I was there the DMV guy seemed to explain to the guy before me what was going on pretty well. It's a tiny office so I got to hear it all. A guy had a paid off lien and the bank sent him paperwork and he lost the paperwork and the bank went out of business. So the DMV guy had to explain the guy needed to go to the bank that bought the assets(which was known) and get the lien signed off again.

Now, admittedly this was because it's like $150 for a new title in my state even if it's just to remove a lienholder, so often people don't bother until they sell the car.

My experience was a bit odd. I was there for my Real ID and the DMV guy tried to convince me not to get one since I used my passport card as my proof of citizenship. He's like "Just use that, you'll save $35 every 7 years on renewal", nah, I'm good just give me another card with the mark of Satan.

Being here with my max wait being 20 minutes sure beats that year I spent in the DMV in Nevada, ok, only like 6 hours... it just felt much longer.

I haven't had to go in for years. Last time I was there, I had to wait in a long line twice, and the asshole workers got up and started threatening to ban people for "being rude", when they were the ones being rude and snippy to everybody.

I'm trying to decide on a laptop that will work for the demanding things I do for work, the problem is, between the gamers and the graphic designers, you can't get any solid advice. Finally found something, reviews are mixed because it apparently sucks ass for gaming bro. Somebody says, I like this PC for what I do with it and someone tuts that some other thing is better for gaming, you're retarded for buying it. What the fuck is going on with gaming that the entire PC industry is judged based on gaming. For a second I thought, well, if it's bad for gaming maybe it's bad for having infinite tabs open and two Adobe products going. But I'm thinking maybe that's not true?
So I go looking for what graphic artists use because I do use some of the same tools but they only talk about macs and I'm over macs. When you actually look at what you're getting for the money, I'm sorry, that's retarded. I know that's not news. I picked up a couple from 2013 for cheap at a tech exchange during COVID and within a couple of years these things are absolutely obsolete. Meanwhile the household PC which is also from 2013 still works fine and has no compatibility issues.
Oh and I tried just looking at some things in person and the Best Buy guy immediately, and incorrectly, clocked me as a Candy Crush player and tried to direct me away from laptops and to the tablets because I might overheat the laptop when I read in bed...which I don't do ever. I read Kiwifarms on my phone dumbass.
