This is correct. I'm in favor of tariffs as a pressure tactic for getting countries like Mexico to do more about drug cartels (as an example), but it doesn't work out economically in the long-term or with a country that goes "yeah well fuck you, too."

EU countries are encouraged to comply because there's a huge market in the US for their advanced products. China won't buy AstraZeneca's new drugs when they can buy Aurobindo's version made in India. China won't buy the EU's lithium ion batteries because they have a giant domestic industry for it. However, if ze Germans are willing to dig in and wait for Trump to leave, tariffs are a problem.

Trump is fucked if the economy slumps.
Trump should scrap Obama's emission standards and With Chrysler laying people off. And with Profits down 48% in 2024 Elon or somebody should buy Chrysler and make the best affordable hybrid sedan. Made in America with all American parts.

@Friend of Dorothy Parker
You got overtime. You'd generally pull about $800-1000 a week. But you had to work 6 12s most weeks or they'd fire you. Every factory operates that way now in the rust belt. The Japanese factories are generally cleaner than the American ones. I have worked jobs where you had to sign a contract waving your right to overtime, just not in factories.

NPR is “trying” to be less biased, but still constantly only has segments that are so cringe inducing it’s almost impossible to believe.

Just a day or so ago, was listening in my car about some crab-person celebrity faggot talking about how he was defeating racism by playing some role in a TV show about the BIPOC struggle.

It’s kind of the problem with the left, really. All their idols and icons are so obnoxious and retarded, it’s simply amazing. Hasan piker, troons and loud corrupt she-boons that make more money then 99% of America. It’s comical that leftists think this should be the mouthpiece and hero’s to get votes for them.
if you want to fix NPR, the best way is to try and outsource local stations to be the bulk of the radio network. While doing that, reinstitute a version of the fairness doctrine, so that both left and right wing views are shared equally on the network neutrally.

It's really easy to tell which side the jurnoslime is on.

If they say US-Aid they part of the left shill machine

If they say USA-ID they're on the Trump train.

It's not hard to notice. Every Lefty shill without exception will always say US aid because that makes it sound good and helpful and nice and not at all like the propaganda machine it really is. its almost like they're all paid by the same organization or something.

The problem is that you can't compete with countries that can produce the same product at a cheaper price. Everyone wants to buy American until they see the sticker price. It's not a $5,000 difference you recoup in lower maintenance costs due to high quality, it's paying twice as much for basically the same thing. With cars, simpler is both better and cheaper.

The reason why cars are so fucking expensive now is all the electronics. Personally, I would buy a simple car with an AM radio and a tape deck. The rest of the country wants self-driving doohickeys and Bluetooth.

your not wrong. I drive a 2000's suv, and all I have to do if I want Bluetooth is to get a hook-in Bluetooth setup and I can use Spotify. then again, I do like my local talk radio station so I barely use it unless i'm in a car with friends

Good luck!

But I still have 500 cassettes that haven't seen daylight in 20 years*, so I'm all set for the coming carpocalypse.

*and about the same number of records, but not so good for car use :cringe:

The reason other countries can produce them cheaper is cheaper labor. people are willing to work for cheaper because housing is cheaper. If America had better regulated their banks, then housing wouldn't be as expensive as it is. Therefore you wouldn't have to pay your factory workers as much.

Most Chinamen have payed off housing. If 40% Americans didn't have to spend more than 35% of their income on housing, then we could have a competitive industrial sector.

We have built engines that last forever. Case in point, the 2002 dodge ram 2500, with a cummins engine that will last to nearly a million miles. Apparently we're bringing them back, who knows how the 2025 will compare to the 2002.

Maybe we change finance laws to where you get a lower interest rate on an American car?

I personally agree, but I understand why normies want that shit. These things should be luxuries, that people pay more for. Not mandatory in every car, making every car more expensive.

this is the single busiest thread on the site, but the chat we had for politisperging was never used. why is that?
I think a chat is usually only useful on websites for live events. A chatroom to live react/discuss shit like a Pillstream, the immoral acts of rigging by Evil Eddie, or a laughable award show makes sense.
Politics also tends to be a more serious topic of conversation, and I think forum posts give people the opportunity to put effort and thought into their discussions; instead of being forced to come up with a reply before the message they're replying to scrolls by. Not that every post in this thread is a masterclass of quality, but I think most posters at least think they put effort into most of their posts.

Also, for disposable conversations on politics, there's tons of platforms out there for it like Twitter or Discord; and I think the appeal of this thread in particular is that it is the singular place on the entire Internet (as far as I'm aware) where you can discuss politics without it being either disposable conversations, a leftist zeitgeist, or a wignat zeitgeist.

this is the single busiest thread on the site, but the chat we had for politisperging was never used. why is that?

Probably because it is so busy and over the course of the day enough useful articles or other things will be posted here and it's useful to use this thread in order catch up on the news at the end of the day. Then since everyone is already here we can post our shit extremely intelligent takes on those events.

It's also the same kind of use patterns other social sites see where even if they release some new feature that may be better or more useful in some way, the people on the site prefer what they know and have used for some time.

Politics has too much async going on for chat to be useful. People want to talk about multiple things that have happened, are currently happenig, and may happen in the future. It’s not like Rekieta’s streams or hearings where we all tune in at one time and are present for the discussion. Posting doesn’t even happen that quickly enough to work as a real-time discussion.

Your wilful ignorance of the Chinese housing market is appalling. China has a per capita GDP of ~12,000 across a population of 1.4 billion people, yet housing prices easily outstrips their income several times over. I'm not even talking about large metropolises like Beijing, Shanghai, or Shenzhen either. This extends even into third-tier cities in dirt-poor provinces like Huizhou and Guangxi. The reason why you see such a high "ownership" rate of leased flats in China is for two reasons:

a) The lack of proper social safety nets, even the most basic ones like unemployment insurance and health insurance, means that the Chinese have become stringent savers. You have three generations of people (grandparents, parents, and their only child) pooling together their collective savings to buy these leased apartments, often when they haven't even been built yet.

b) Real estate, prior to the Evergrande collapse in 2020, was the only safe asset class Chinese people could invest in. The stock markets in China are heavily rigged and have crashed several times, cryptocurrency of all kinds were banned by the Xi Jinping administration, and bonds from Chinese state-owned banks are borderline worthless. That's also why many Han Chinese people resorted to speculation by buying second or even third homes on margin in literal wastelands they never intended to move into. When the real estate bubble popped in 2020, it created a massive deflationary spiral that's still ongoing. Most Han Chinese are now trapped in situations where they're on the hook for mortgages worth hundreds of thousands of US dollars while their property values are halving basically every day.

@The Ugly One is correct insofar as shit building materials being used, but what's not often spoken about is that insane demand for real estate forced corners to be cut and shortcuts to be taken. This is despite the fact that prices for a sweatbox in a concrete husk in China are easily more expensive than a proper house here in the USA. Holy fucking shit, I get it: America sucks, but praising the communist Chinamen to own the Amerimutts is a level of retarded that's unfathomable. How do you function?

But are they saying "Boo" or "Boo-urns?"

I wanted RFK Jr on Trump's team because I am sick of how unhealthy and FAT Americans are. I am with him 100% for MAHA only.
That is unironically like a top five issue for me, and it's sad how trying to make our country healthier is a party issue at this point.
We just need to stop poisoning the food with who knows what chemicals, we need to significantly reduce childhood obesity and diabetes (it's got so bad we stopped calling Type 2 "adult onset" and now it's "late onset"), we need to reduce adult CVD and related conditions, and that all comes down to our food supply being unfathomable slop.
How we should do that is where the politics come in, but we need to do something and RFK is pretty much the only dude on this mad crusade.
