I have a rule of thumb when getting into new things and what people show me. A show has 5 episodes to get me interested. A game has an hour and a half to get me wanting to play it more. A band has at least 3 songs before I decide I want to continue listening to their discography. The lengths are lessened the more I start finding things I don't like about whatever it is I'm presented.


I hate these people that just want to waste your time by telling you this bullshit that it will "start to get good" at a certain point. Who asked you to curate what I want to get into?

Anyway, these two quotes are related, regardless of gender or age. I have such scar tissue with giving feedback. You never know how people are at coping, and more and more these days people lash out, and to an increasing degree. So I'm dropping the ball because fuck it, I'm not going to have my day, month, or life ruined because some asshole has a hard time with an honest "do better or else."
The consequence? Quality of services has plummeted. You can't trust anyone to do quality or thorough work. All these social justice types will slack off on the job, phone in hand, so they can tweet the hottest of takes for racial justice, meanwhile misfiling some marginalized person's medical insurance papers.
It's such a universal opinion that school sucks and is so conformist, and just, like, makes you a cog in the wheel maaaaaaaan. But society needs cogs to run. Most of us are little more than cog worthy. What the fuck is the problem? I'm fine with being a cog. I do my work, I get paid, and then I'm able to spend some time having fun and raising my family. But we're quickly approaching a world where we can't outsource anything anymore because everyone is so fucking fragile and unskilled. And they don't even know it. And I'm part of the problem because I never again want my free time filled up with someone's threat of litigation because of fee fees.

This is the real reason I have "no friends". I mean, I do, but they are the rare people that I just go get a coffee with once in awhile, have fun at a cocktail party when the come up etc. But everyone has family and are respectful of that. I've got scar tissue from all the times my parents were roped into MLM pitches so I'm already shy of pushy friendly people.
Anyway, you think being invited to a strip club is bad? (It is.) Try being invited to a 10 am dentist appointment that runs one hour late, takes another hour while your friend is in the chair, and another two hours to wait for an X-ray or some shit I do not remember. And this was an era before smartphones. When I close my eyes I can still see that Brad Pitt and Jenifer Aniston cover of People Magazine.
I was just in it for the promise of brunch but the restaurant was closed by then. Consider that friendship dead. You don't fuck around with my breakfast burrito.

And my gears are pre-grinded today bc yesterday I made the mistake of comparing cars and costs online through Car & Driver’s site, which yes lets dealers know you’re curious about certain cars. That was yesterday evening. By 9 am this morning I had 9 texts and 5 phone calls. The phone calls started a minute after 8 am. And woke me up 3 different times until I just gave up trying to sleep in.

I am not taking business calls at 8 am Saturday morning, fuck off.

And my phone is set so that only certain calls are supposed to actually ring/vibrate. How did all of these get around that???

It was upsetting enough when every huge company went to call center practices, now even local and small ones are doing it. If you haven't already fixed it yet, go to a local auto parts store and ask to borrow an engine code reader. Most places will lend you one for free and you can see what's the problem that caused the check engine light. They won't fix it for you, but at least you can know what the problem is.

Thanks, there's an O'Reilly's close to me and topping the coolant didn't do the trick. I'm just minimizing travel til Monday when I get my oil changed. It's only been on for like 20 - 40 miles (saw it when I was 20 miles from home).

Thread tax: The amount of hoops you have to jump through to get the least expensive oil change. 15-20 was standard not *that* long ago and now you're incredibly lucky to find them under 40 without a coupon. If you want them under 50, you have to shop a bit. The dollar has devalued, but come on, not that much.

I dread the day my mechanic retires. He runs his shop in an old hole-in-the-wall former gas station and I’ve been going to him for about 23 years. I’m afraid I’ll end up having to eventually deal with what you just described. Ugh.

Thread tax: It’s taking me longer and longer to recover from sustained physical exertion. My mind is still young but my body keeps telling me, “The hell you are!” It’s tough going from athletic to being an old fart. I shouldn’t be this old, dammit.
