Presumably, the minute he signs a retainer agreement. The first thing they'd do is file a notice of appearance in the District Court docket. It's a contractual arrangement, so it would reasonably take a couple of days to discuss the case, clear any conflicts, draft the agreement, and receive a signed copy. But for someone who has a "team of lawyers," it's weird that there's no sign any of this has happened.

He can strike out one or two of her claims with a motion to dismiss, which will toll the date for an answer. His lawyers might wait until the last day to file their motion to dismiss or answer, but there's no legal tactic at all in failing to file a notice of appearance. It just means Destiny doesn't have counsel yet.

Lawyers are paid by the hours they work or on a contingency basis (or they're pro bono for some charitable reason). Either the work generally isn't being done because there's nothing responsive filed, or they're on contingency so Pxie isn't paying much of anything at this point. There's no financial or tactical advantage from your lawyer failing to show up.
