Up to 15+ years at this point. You had people in various /i/ related IRC's back in the late 2000's that got arrested for flying too close to the sun served or became informants, while others who didn't do retarded illegal stuff and just did stuff 'for the lulz' moved on. Chanology in 2008 was the death knell for it all since it attracted the very type of people who took the "internet is serious business" phrase literally and within years started disassociating itself with *chan culture. I'm still waiting for the day of the grandest form of irony when "Anonymous" declares war on 4chan.

Wasn't Fox News, but a local LA affiliate KTTV, which is owned by Fox Television Stations for their evening news program back in early 2007.

My tinfoil sense says that 4chan itself was compromised as long, if not longer.

I remember when Chanology was going on, anons were warning us about moralfags. In the long run they sure were right. In general the whole "hactivist" scene is a joke. I won't forget how 420chan's admin (?) helped the Canadian government to fight against the Truckers protests by attacking Give Send Go*. Yeah, the most edgy hax0r thing to do is attacking the state's enemies, even if the precedents being set are simply bad for overall human freedom.

The Jake Brahm incident in 2006 regarding the prank threads about bombing football stadiums on top of the CP that was being posted on /b/ got moot in a lot of trouble with the FBI . All culminated in the 2008 Vice President nominee Sarah Palin email hacks posted on /b/ which moot was forced to attend federal court to testify.
And yeah Kirtaner is an informant, on top of being an aging has-been drug addict, but he puts too much credit for anything in his basket when he just hangs around more semi-capable people.

I heard rumors about /b/ not even having the standard janny stuff, but the jannies there are cops or feds. I cannot verify it, but I heard they never seem to recruit jannies for that board in the usual manner.

Also the amount of blame 4chan is still getting, it is telling that no jurno or activist found good old Moot or looked into Hiromoot either. Oh well, must be a coincidence.

He old anon was mostly following fight club rules. This made it easy to be disruptive. They would post, go silent, land the hit, then post again showing off their prize. The new anon post for attention and edgelord points. The old members probably grew up, had families, and are rolling their eyes at this nonsense.

There was a series of posts back in July 2010 speaking about this in great detail. Granted, take it with a grain of salt since this could've easily been a very elaborate "Cool story bro" shitpost in the pre-/pol/ era of the site, however many of things brought up did align with the events that did occur in the years following up to it and aren't exaggerated, especially since it took place months after moot testified in federal court.
