Seeing that stream and those tweets actually left me fucking speechless. I despair that language itself cannot adequately convey the mixture of vindication, awe, dismay and, most of all, disgust I feel when looking at the state of those creatures. The catharsis of discussing these things with others eludes me; all I can do now is point and grunt like a caveman at a thing, my feelings for which I cannot articulate, and hope my fellow Kiwis can relate.

April is a classic BPD-whore. She has no personality of her own. She has no likes or dislikes, no real opinions about anything. The only thing she has is a compulsive need to find someone to idolise, and whose opinions she can gaslight herself into thinking are her own. I've dated one before, and over the course of a couple of months her taste in music changed drastically. Her political opinions did a complete 180 to align with mine. She started wearing the women's version of the aftershave I wore at the time. She even adopted particular idiosyncratic phrases/language devices that I use.

The strangest thing was how she came across as entirely sincere when speaking about her 'new interests'. She spoke about the music I listen to like someone who had actually grown up listening to it for hours every night, associating it with landmarks in their life. She'd convinced herself that she had always liked those artists, and that she had seen the things I see in them before we had met. This was false; she'd never even heard of it before meeting me.

If you're a reasonably well-adjusted person, a person close to you stealing your own skin like this would cause you to become extremely confused and creeped out. That was my reaction. It is not Nick's. He is a narcissistic compulsive liar who has holes in his brain and the emotional maturity of a 12 year old, who is insecure that nobody else ever took his grandiose delusions seriously, and who is going through his teenage rebellion and his midlife crisis at the same time. To someone like that, finding a person who devotes their entire existence to you, who brainwashes themselves into being exactly what you want them to be and believing the same delusional things as you is like catching lightning in a bottle.

It's hard to conceive of a more unhealthy pair of personalities. April and Nick are like an immovable force and an unstoppable object of complex mental illness on a collision course. I don't know what will end up happening with them, but I doubt it'll be pretty.
