Phil was wasted on Machinima, and it's clear they wanted him gone once they realized he wasn't going to do any work they asked him to do. All the resources they out in to try and make him improve were completely wasted because Phil needed to have bitch fits over literal suggestions.
His stalling start the games now is getting so bad. Every single prestream is just him delaying the inevitable hoping for a tip as much as possible. minutes of silence as he scans chat for any dumbass questions to ask until he finally gives up.
There is this video out there of him at some BBQ hangout of something with a bunch of East Coast Street Fighter guys or some shit. He might have just tagged along with some people he knew or was directly invited, but it's amazing considering the hermit he is now. You would never see present day Philip doing something like that.

This is an entirely wrong take regarding his relationship with Machinima. If anything, DSP's failure to take advantage of the oppurtunities they offered just meant that Machinima didn't need to invest any money into DSP. They wouldn't have to promote him or offer him any cross-promotion opportunities. In exchange for doing basically nothing, Machinima continues to collect a nice chunk of his ad revenue, and can re-negotiate whenever they want as the AD revenue dries up.
They did try at first when they looked to give Phil a new "career" as a game commentator but he didn't see the opportunities. Then they went as you said and even funnier managed to give him a contract that was not legally enforceable but Phil was so thick he signed it anyway. And I suspect his E3 tour with all those video clips (and his after E3 bitching) convinced Machinima to ignore Phil completly and just sometimes throw him some bawbles (like new games) to keep him happy (or rather ignorant)
What a fucking idiot, like i can tell you that i atleast have over 3 digits in slay the spire and Binding of isacc repentance. Mind you, sure they are games that you play in short bursts but they are games that have gotten me to play them for much longer than actual AAA games in the last 5 years.
