Labour's Sadiq Khan has secured a historic third term as London mayor, seeing off Tory challenger Susan Hall.

It followed "wild rumours" the incumbent could have suffered a shock defeat, although both sides subsequently said they believedMr Khan would win.

He received just over 1,088,000 votes to be re-elected, a majority of some 275,000 over Ms Hall, who secured just under 813,000 votes.

Earlier in the day, Sir Keir Starmer said he was confident of victory for Mr Khan, who was first elected to the role in 2016.

The Labour leader said: "Sadiq Khan was absolutely the right candidate.

"He has got two terms of delivery behind him and I am confident that he has got another term of delivery in front of him."

The result comes after Rishi Sunak's Tory party took a hammering at the local elections, shedding hundreds of seats and losing more than 10 councils.

Meanwhile, Labour has made gains across the country, winning the Blackpool South by-election with a 26% swing, taking control of councils in key battleground areas and victorious in the three inaugural mayoral races in the East Midlands, the North East and York and North Yorkshire, a region which includes Mr Sunak's Richmond constituency.

Mr Starmer said: "This is effectively the last stop on the journey to the general election and I am really pleased to be able to show we are making progress, we have earned the trust and confidence of voters and we are making progress towards that general election."

Both Mr Khan and Ms Hallhad repeatedly clashed during the campaign, fought out amid concerns about knife crime and the handling of pro-Palestinian marches in the capital.

Just recently, Mr Khan had described his Conservative rival as the "most dangerous candidate I have fought against" over her past social media activity.

Hitting back, Ms Hall said she had "learnt" from her mistakes and branded his comment "outrageous".

A clear dividing line between the candidates had been Mr Khan's controversial expansion of the ultra low emission zone (ULEZ), which has been the subject of ongoing protests and which Ms Hall had pledged to scrap.

During the race, the Conservatives were forced to delete a clip used in an advert against Mr Khan's record on crime after it emerged it used footage of a stampede at a New York subway station.

This breaking news story is being updated and more details will be published shortly.

I expected it would happen, not that I'm happy about it. London is absolutely packed with pakis and other assorted shitskins who feel more loyalty towards their own tribe as long as it serves their best interests. It was already swarming with foreign filth when I lived there and that was easily a decade ago so I can only imagine the demographics have only gotten worse since. London will continue getting what it deserves while I enjoy a nice life away from the urban shitholes.

It is good you aren't effected by the absurdity of London anymore but always remember it is a cautionary tale for all cities in the United Kingdom.

Here is the demographic breakdown of London over the past few decades.

London's only had a proper mayor since the late 90s/early 2000
Yes "London" as a single municipal unit in the modern sense where it's this carcinogenic metropolis is a relatively recent development, the "ancient" city is it's own thing of course but the surrounding boroughs used to be just that; separate conurbations, much like "New York" metastasizing to cover 5 of it's state's counties. There wasn't a proper single authority for the wider area till the tail end of the Victorian period, although there were earlier attempts, previously it was a sort of feudal fragmentation type chaos you'd expect from the >H >R >E.
It has all been gleichschaltung'd now, a true hive, the government is for some reason trying to get ahead of similar such developments by having regional mayors but don't seem to understand the unique scenario that resulted in LANDAN being the bloated mass that it is.

Who the fuck voted for this guy? He should have been out on his arse for the shit he pulled.

The Vice President of the Fabian Society is not elected into a position of political power by the plebs.

But do feel free to piss and moan about the muslim invasion of London anyway, it's a war crime without fighting a war, it's increased the population of England by 10% and pushed the price of food up something wicked. Khan is the least of their impact.

Tesseract, is that you? Somerset, is that you?

Is the third term historic or is it the fact a mudskin got the third term?

Eventually the White Brits get the Pakis mad and the death count will be horrific.
The role of "Mayor of London" has only existed since the year 2000. We used to have a leader of the Greater London Council, but Thatcher shut it down and then it was sort of recreated under Blair. So it's not really that historic, because there have been 7 elections (2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2021, 2024) and three mayors (Ken Livingstone - prior head of GLC, Boris Johnson - fucking idiot, Sadiq Khan - chocolate teapot).

As I've already said in other threads - I'm a Londoner, and I voted for Khan. Do I like Khan? No. Do I think he does a good job? No. Do I think Susan Hall could do a better job? Absolutely not, she's a complete retard. There you have it. London voted for Sadiq Khan because at least he's not Susan Hall. She was never supposed to run for mayor. The Tories put her up as a candidate against their actual choice, Daniel Korski, but it turns out Mr Korski couldn't keep his hands off women so he dropped out and we ended up with Susan. Unsurprisingly London doesn't want the Q-Anon conspiracist mouthbreather.

So we're stuck with Khan. But he is better than the fucking dullard that the Tories put up, because the Tories don't know how to govern anymore.

Good.

Londoners deserve exactly what they voted for.

inb4 "Its muh shitskins that voted for him not hWuites!11!!!1"

Oh yeah? And who voted to let "muh shitskins" in?

As far as I'm concerned this and everything that happens to the UK is just deserts.

Nobody ever voted for shitskins. (Mass) immigration was and has always been against the wishes of the population. It's why Britain voted for Brexit because the tories kept blithering about the EU's laws preventing them from stopping the flow and anti-immigration acts has always been the most desired trait of british voters. Conservatives kept promising to do something about it but only increased the flow hence they got the electoral pasting they deserved. Not one person voted for "I'll flood your country out with shitskins!" because no politician ever claimed they'd do it, it would have been political suicide.
