Phil has the amazing facility of appearing to be even more of an asshole than he is. I suspect any other person in the world would have gotten away with the "slave trade joke" getting nothing worse than "Dude, really?" But Phil just has to defend it as Level 9 commentary, when he has "Hello, Jew" in his history.
Anyone else in the world could say they were uncomfortable with the overt sexualization of media without coming across like a joyless freak.
Phil could say "Oxygen is good for us" in a way that makes everyone respond, "The hell it is."

And let's not forget he laughs at his old shit, too. As an amateur writer I can completely understand being amused and proud of your previous work. Of course, there's a difference between "I changed" and "I don't do that any more because I'd be cancelled." See Point #2.

I'll throw this on here as to why Dave's sense if humor is distorted and childish. He more than likely knows Dice Clay and more than likely finds him a comedy god when in hindsight all his material was one dimensional shtick and routine. There is being funny and doing funny to put it more simply or to put it into Derich terms he likes spot monkeys.

It also helps that most streamers don't have hour-long compilations being made every week showing they're assholes to everyone and for no reason. It also wouldn't be half as bad if Phil wasn't simultaneously trying to claim his content is much better than everyone else's. He always brags about how mature he is and he's not a cartoon, yet that and scat jokes are as far as his maturity goes, which for me is the actually outrageous thing. If you want to be an edgy faggot, just do it, embrace it and move on instead of being a sissy when confronted and blame everybody else for not laughing at a black girl being sold not being a racist joke, like who actually cares?

Also, needless to say, you need to be slightly intelligent if you want to make dark humour, otherwise you're just being an edgy teenager, that's why shows like Cum Town can even throw the hard R uncensored and be a funny bit and why Phil is just obnoxious and unfunny at best.

Phil was never funny and he always laughed and clapped at his own jokes, but his riffing used to have energy to it. Whether it was cringe political satire, racism, half-remembered stand up bits, racism, vulgar sexual comedy Andrew Dice Clay would wince at, or racism he would at least give it his best MST3K impression. Now you only see that energy when the comedy topic is anuses, things going into anuses, or things coming out of anuses.

I've been watching WPIG deep dives for the last month a lot and you could tell that back in the day, phil was still the same hateful manchild that he is now, but he had an audience cause he had energy. Nowadays he hates what he does, so there's zero energy. Only time you see a little bit of energy is his first time playing games where he goes clownmode in an attempt to get a viral moment. Otherwise he's doing the Infinite Wealth thing where he's falling asleep during the cutscenes.

If he simply said either, "I think you should be allowed to make fun of anything. I like dark humor. You can find the joke unfunny but that's just a principle I have" or "Listen I stream for hours a day six days a week. I have to be entertaining so that's filling dead air with jokes off the top of my head for hours every day. Some jokes are going to bomb or come out wrong. I'm also in my forties, I grew up surrounded by edgier comedy than is allowed today so it'll slip out sometimes" no one but the most insane wokes would care. Instead Flathead Phil says he's the least racist person on the planet, and acktually you're all the racists for noticing the girl he threatened to sell into slavery was black. The funniest thing about all this is he made $0 during the 3.5 hours of "reacting" he did and adding his 2 cents to any random clip. Not even super chats to try to goad him into more arguing.

Anyone else think Phil lost his sense of humor? Modern Phil just can't make any good jokes

The WPIG episode where they went through his Asian-style jokes and nearly every one was "Chicky Chang Wang Charlie Chang Pork Fried Rice" or some version of that shows he has no actual sense of humor. Maybe if you were a smooth brained idiot who never matured past 17 you thought he was super edgy, or your sense of humor never got past American Pie, but he has maybe 1-2 jokes that he just rehashes over and over and over. Oh and scat of course.

I equate him to Michael Scott in a way too. He knows racial stereotypes, he knows things that are made light of in relation to those, but if you ask him to come up with his own joke, it'll be either super racist without any humor, or just the lowest of low hanging fruits, and he won't understand why people are either not amused or offended.

I know people call him a boomer about a lot of the idiotic things he says, but he has the racial humor level of somebody who grew up in the 50s and still calls people orientals. I mean, the Chicky Chang Wang stuff he's saying is mostly in Japanese games. Cmon now.
