Mass shooting reported at multiple locations in Lewiston, Maine

To be slightly fair, you can get AK-style rifles chambered in 308. Russia was exporting them pre-ban as the AK-308 and Zastava currently has the M77.
Not to mention the civilian (read: semi-auto only) variants tend to be chambered in whatever round is widely and locally available. In the US, that's .223, and .308. I bet (without having to look) they're becoming popular with .300 blackout lately, too.

I dont know anything about N109US or it's owner "U S HELICOPTERS INC".
They mostly lease helicopters to local tv stations. 50/50 either contracted by newsies or Maine law enforcement.
I can't find any source that supports what you're saying. Ironically, your claimed definition is on its face an extremely liberal one, but even the most pearl-clutching ultra-lib sources don't seem to define it that way.
In 2012 the US legislature defined a mass killing as:
  1. 3 or more killings in a single incident; in a place of public use
  2. place of public use means those parts of any building, land, street, waterway, or other location that are accessible or open to members of the public, whether continuously, periodically, or occasionally, and encompasses any commercial, business, cultural, historical, educational, religious, governmental, entertainment, recreational, or similar place that is so accessible or open to the public;

Mass shootings aren't legally defined, but 3 or more people shot is what a lot of gun violence advocates use. That definition makes 90% of shootings in Chi-congo a mass shooting.

Dunno. But now they're walking back the claim he was a shooting instructor.
I knew from the minute I heard the claim he was a "shooting instructor" while being just a sub-NCO POL faggot, what they really meant was he got tapped to be an RSO for the unit's yearly rifle qualifications. Not because he was the unit armorer, a squad leader, or even some sort of high-speed idiot-savant with a rifle, but because they simply didn't have enough NCOs on range days.

So the opportunity existed for the media to take "yeah, he helped on the range along with his other duties", and make him sound like an NRA certified, John Wick-tier instructor who snapped. Nevermind that all RSO's do is check & call clear on their lane, make sure the shooter is shooting at their own target, is keeping their muzzle pointed in the right direction, etc. If he was giving any instruction to qualifying soldiers beyond "sight picture/trigger squeeze", he sure as fuck wasn't supposed to be; especially as a random faggot pulled off the bleachers to fill some holes left by a lack of qualified bodies.
Most AK platforms are 7.62x39. .308 is 7.62x51. They're not interchangeable. 7.62x51 is significantly longer and more powerful, and more frequently used in DMRs (sniper rifles). The head spacing of an AK wouldn't not allow you to chamber a 7.62 NATO round. The chamber pressure of 7.62 NATO is also about 6,000psi more, so if you were somehow able to get it to chamber, you'd probably destroy the rifle as a result.

Oh fuck off. AK platforms shoot everything these days.

But sure, have fun stocking up on russian ammunition, I guess. lol

As much as I enjoy AR vs AK & caliber debates, there's another Farms thread specifically for firearms autism. Which also happens to be slow as fuck lately, since everyone is busy sperging elsewhere.

Guys, it's a 20 year US army vet in 2023.

So of fucking COURSE I'm talking about the OG kalashnikov prototype.

Here's your tard card. 🧩

Audrey Hale wasn’t political and more just evidence all troons are violent. She was just trying to “get back” at a Catholic school for being a Catholic school which she was abused at.

Anders was obviously political (and based)

The Paris shooters were Islamists which is political I guess.
Audrey Hale shot up a Presbyterian school IIRC. Still got what she deserved though regardless.

That's rich. A General Dynamics/MeidasTouch combo was not what I would have expected.
Hell even Wikipedia says there is no real definition so just go with whatever advances your political agenda on a given day:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mass_shooting
The appropriateness of a broad versus narrow definition of "mass shooting" has been the subject of debate. Some commentators argue in favor of a narrow definition of mass shootings that excludes the victims of street crime. Mark Follman of Mother Jones, which compiles an open-source database of mass shootings, contends that "While all the victims are important, conflating those many other crimes with indiscriminate slaughter in public venues obscures our understanding of this complicated and growing problem."[30] Northeastern University criminologist James Alan Fox argues against the use of the broad definition of "mass shooting" in the popular press, stating that it misleads readers.[31]
Of course they want to narrow the definition down, because the real numbers show that niggers are a much more violent and dangerous threat to the average person. It's all a bunch of word games like calling a shooting that happens after hours at a school a "school shooting." You know it's bad when even WaPo had to call it out in the past.

Well, he's no slouch, that's for sure.

WTF...

Not because of any training the Army provided (especially in a Natl. Guard POL company), and it sounds like he's been shooting on his own with family since childhood.

Edit:. I'm sure he  told lots of people he was an instructor, because he's exactly the kind of faggot who claims shit like that after spending 20yrs in and never deploying once. He wasn't even a full-timer in the Guard (that I've heard yet).

They didn't even get the National Guard part correct. He was Army Reserve. This is the "base" in Saco, ME that he threatened to shoot up.

Not if it was through the VA. They've been reporting people en masse to NICS for being "mentally defective" regardless of voluntarily seeking treatment; that means depression, PTSD, age-related problems (i.e. inability to handle one's own finances, poor memory) etc.

It started as the NICS Improvement Act of 2007, signed into law by Obama, and the process has been on the books for over a decade now, but they only really got the ball rolling circa 2016.

I personally know several other vets who sought voluntary out-patient treatment for PTSD and depression, and then suddenly started getting denied on background checks years later; they had to get lawyers to find out the reason.
This is a great way to discourage people from getting help. That's the reason voluntary commitment doesn't usually bar civilians from their gun rights.

The NY post has lots of new info about the victims (they just seemed like randoms) as well as lots of photos of his house.

Also his boat is missing.

Listening to MSM news as I go about my day the NYPD sent photos to every officers smartphone this morning. NY MTA has also been alerted.
Massachusetts State police say their on alert go to Maine to help search. Reading between the lines I guess is they are not going because they don't actually know if he is still in Maine and don't want to be caught being out of state if he pops up in Mass. .

So the soy golem on the news was lying about his "compound". Imagine moi shawk.

It was referred to as the "Veterans Disarmament Act" by the NRA for a reason, back when it was first introduced.

But yeah, I've known a LOT of guys (myself included) who avoided seeking help at all costs, exactly because they knew it eventually meant losing their 2nd Amendment rights; along with generally being flagged as an unstable veteran.

And some of them definitely needed it, but they're also dead because they couldn't ask for help, at least without being treated like an unstable liability to society & family.

Looks like the police had forewarning:
A family member of Robert Card—the man accused of killing 18 people and injuring 13 more during a multi-location mass shooting in Lewiston, Maine, on Wednesday—said the family warned police Card was experiencing an “acute” mental health episode before Wednesday’s shooting, NBC News reported.
