McCarthy to endorse Biden impeachment inquiry, setting up possible vote

Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) will endorse an impeachment inquiry into President Biden this week, a source familiar confirmed to The Hill, setting the scene for a formal vote in the chamber — even though it remains unclear that there is enough support to launch a formal investigation.

McCarthy intends to tell Republican lawmakers that House Oversight Chair James Comer (R-Ky.) and House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) have found enough information to back up the need for a formal impeachment inquiry, the source said.

He will also argue that the launching for a formal inquiry will aid in their effort to try and get a hold of bank records and documents related to the Biden family.

McCarthy plans to call an impeachment inquiry the “logical next step” in the GOP-led investigations, the source said.

The House GOP conference is set to meet behind closed doors twice this week: on Wednesday and on Thursday. During Thursday’s meeting, Comer and Jordan are scheduled to speak about their investigations.

Punchbowl News first reported on McCarthy’s plans.

Republicans in the House have been divided over the issue of impeachment, and the issue of launching an inquiry.

There appears to be more support for launching an inquiry, but it could still be a difficult vote for House Republicans representing districts won by Biden. Democrats are sure to make it part of their attacks in next year’s campaigns.

Yeah, cool. I'm not exactly confident this will progress, nor that it will result in anything meaningful even if it DOES progress. I'd love to see Biden impeached and strung up but I'm not holding my breath.
I recognise this is a very gay fencesitting opinion but I'd be a liar if I said anything else.

:story: yes let's have a vote on whether to investigate holding a formal vote which won't go anywhere because muh principled conservatism doesn't allow for such icky actions. Funny how Pelosi a few years back didn't need all those extra steps to just barrel ahead with impeachment proceedings. Twice.

How is it that the Democrats can get two impeachments for nothing in pretty quick succession, complete with Trump Impeachment pens to commemorate the event (even as their Chinese benefactors are sending all those tourists from Wuhan), but when we have third world levels of corruption in the White House the Republicans take years to set up the committee to discuss the possibility of maybe thinking about impeaching Biden?

Just took Gaetz threatening to trigger a vote to replace McCarthy. I suspect he'll drag his feet and do as little as possible.

Which, honestly, is probably the best long term strategy. Biden us a disaster and a millstone around the Dems' neck come 2024

I expect this to be more blueballing and brinkmanship. But I hope against hope that I'll be proven wrong.
Even if by some miracle they actually do it, they're not going to remove him from office. And when that's the case, impeachment is nothing more than Congress saying "we don't like you".

It's less consequential than telling Biden he talks like a fag and his shit's all retarded.

Impeachment has ZERO to do with the severity of the "charges". There is no standard for the charges that warrant impeachment proceedings and no evidentiary standard needed to "prove" those charges.

You get enough votes and you can impeach the president for having a bad hair day.

I've said it before: conservatives aren't necessarily cucks. Liberals are just raging Machiavellians who are single-minded in their quest for more power.

Conservatives have this maudlin assumption that everyone will play by the rules as long as they do. They also feel bound by their own consciences; they don't want to turn into the thing they claim to hate. They're willing to give the Devil the benefit of law, for their own sake.

Liberals have no such encumbrances. Their "Right Side of History" ethos has convinced them that they can do no wrong, because the ends justify the means. They will cut down every law to get at the Devil.

Still, on rare occasions, liberals' love of Calvinball governance comes back to bite them in the ass. For example, Harry Reid nuking the filibuster for judicial nominees, or when Biden said that Bush Sr. shouldn't nominate a SCOTUS justice during an election year.

The one good thing Cocaine Mitch has ever done is keep that crooked bastard Garland away from a SCOTUS seat.

Lol I see the bible thumping boomer political party is still seething mad that Trump was impeached twice for violating the law and again is being held accountable for his crimes so they want to impeach Biden even though he's done nothing to warrant impeachment

They know damn well the other side doesn't care about decorum or the rule of law. But you don't start shitting in the street just because they do it in San Francisco.
That's exactly what you do. Adherence to the rule of law and governance is well explained by game theory - if one sides stops playing by the rules, you're a mathematically-provable sucker if you continue to obey them.

of course this will never happen lol. it's not even a remote possibility. the impeachment thing is such a meme at this point, retards in congress have been name dropping it ever since they almost got Slick Willy. if they couldn't poach Trump - somebody who's almost universally hated among the political class - they're sure as shit not going to poach backroom handjob master Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. believe it.

No, but if he’s outlived his usefulness to the machine they may want a legal way of getting rid of him.
I thought they’d go the health angle, I’m still halfway sure he’s going to die in office so that Kamala woman can take over.

If he's still alive in a year I think the best bet will be a 25th amendment attempt. The dems would love that because they can say he was still a good guy and also get the first STroNK Blak W0Man with Harris in as a president.

It may be legal, but it's also unprecedented to remove a president and would hurt the political class's credibility even further when it's at an all-time low. Plus I really doubt they want to get rid Joe - if you're a political puppeteer pulling the strings in the background, a senile president led around by handlers 24/7 is the best thing that could ever happen to you.
