There's also a bullshit belief among some boomers that digoxin is a kind of "tonic" (back in the 1960s there were even formulations of digitoxin in low doses compounded with other alkaloids and B-vitamins on sale for this "purpose").
100 years ago(1920s) he would probably have been a Nazi or Stalinist and not been able to shut his trap about that.
50 years ago ('70s) he'd have been a hippie of the Tommy Tooter sort or a member of some cult.
As for the state of mental health in those days, Freudian psychoanalysis was still pretty much in vogue even by the '70s.
Although there is a lot of fair criticism of this form of therapy (its incessant harping on sex to the exclusion of anything else and the very long treatment times allowing practitioners to string patients along for cash), it could be useful in getting to the root cause of a person's problems and addressing them.
The thing that has remained unchanged is the fact that the patient has to realise that he has a problem and want to address it before any sort of therapy can help him.
To paraphrase a well-known racist saying:
"You can take the cow out of the pasture, but you can not take the pasture out of the cow"

the number of troons who live in absolute filth is disturbing. how anyone can live like that is beyond me. im sure this troon lives at home, so why dont parents get more strict with heir children and make them clean this up? one of the problems with modern parenting is how so many parents dont seem to set any rules or set and sort of boundaries in their homes for their children.you have to set boundaries and have children follow rules.

Are redditors really so lazy/dumb that they can't even make up a believable fake story? This super-controlling family of religious nuts is supposedly up this guy's ass 24/7, even monitoring his phone calls and internet usage, but they didn't notice that a 22 year old "lost several inches of height", "grew hourglass hips and C-cup tits", and "underwent radical facial changes". For close family/friends and coworkers, I can sort of understand that: if the changes are gradual enough, people get used to it and accept it as normal, like what happened to this guy. But when Aunt Mindy comes from Arizona after 5 years without seeing lil' Charlie and runs into Dollar Store Buffalo Bill, she'll notice the changes even if she won't say anything about it.
