A transgender girl accused of assaulting two students at a Texas high school alleges that she was being bullied and was merely fighting back

Shocking video shows a student identified by police as Travez Perry violently punching, kicking and stomping on a girl in the hallway of Tomball High School.

The female student was transported to the hospital along with a male student, whom Perry allegedly kicked in the face and knocked unconscious.

According to the police report, Perry - who goes by 'Millie' - told officers that the victim has been bullying her and had posted a photo of her on social media with a negative comment.

One Tomball High School parent whose daughter knows Perry said that the 18-year-old had been the target of a death threat.

'From what my daughter has said that the girl that was the bully had posted a picture of Millie saying people like this should die,' the mother, who asked not to be identified by name, told DailyMail.com.

When Perry appeared in court on assault charges, her attorney told a judge that the teen has been undergoing a difficult transition from male to female and that: 'There's more to this story than meets the eye.'

Perry is currently out on bond, according to authorities.

The video of the altercation sparked a widespread debate on social media as some claim Perry was justified in standing up to her alleged bullies and others condemn her use of violence.

The mother who spoke with DailyMail.com has been one of Millie's most ardent defenders on Facebook.

'I do not condone violence at all. But situations like this show that people now a days, not just kids, think they can post what they want. Or say what they want without thinking of who they are hurting,' she said.

'Nobody knows what Millie has gone through, and this could have just been a final straw for her. That is all speculation of course because I don't personally know her or her family, but as a parent and someone who is part of the LGBTQ community this girl needs help and support, not grown men online talking about her private parts and shaming and mocking her.'

One Facebook commenter summed up the views of many, writing: 'This was brutal, and severe! I was bullied for years and never attacked anyone!'

Multiple commenters rejected the gender transition defense and classified the attack as a male senselessly beating a female.

One woman wrote on Facebook: 'This person will get off because they're transitioning. This is an animal. She kicked, and stomped, and beat...not okay. Bullying is not acceptable, but kicking someone in the head. Punishment doesn't fit the crime.'

A former health secretary has warned reform of England and Wales' youth gender service is "under threat" over concerns that staff involved in past failings will still have key roles.

BBC Newsnight has learned a clinician from the existing gender clinic, due to be closed this year, has been given a training job in the new service.

Sajid Javid said appointment processes should be "urgently reviewed".

NHS England said the new services would offer a new clinical approach.

The Gender Identity and Development Service (Gids) is the only designated NHS gender clinic for children and young people in England and Wales. It provides an assessment service and can refer them for medical treatments such as puberty blockers - or hormones when they are old enough.

Based at London's Tavistock Centre, it was earmarked for closure last July after an interim report raised concerns about the clinic's reliance on "predominantly an affirmative, non-exploratory approach" to young people who identify as trans.

The report by Dr Hilary Cass, part of her independent review of children's gender identity services, detailed the concerns of some medics who believe this approach allowed other issues such as autism and mental health problems to be overlooked in some cases.

NHS England announced plans to replace Gids, which had been rated "inadequate" by the healthcare regulator, with two new regional hubs - one in London, the other in north-west England.

Following criticism of the old service, the BBC has now learned of concerns about two members of staff appointed to train new staff at the regional hubs.

One is a senior clinician at Gids who says they are "devoted" to an affirmative approach to young people presenting with gender difficulties, and that "social justice" underpins all their work.

Another person appointed, who is not employed by Gids or the trust that runs it, has openly questioned Dr Hilary Cass and NHS England's more cautious stance on social transition - the changing of a young person's name, pronouns, and way they dress. Dr Cass and NHS England argued that it is not a neutral act, and that it can have a psychological impact on children.

Meanwhile, some applicants invited for interview for roles at the new services were initially informed that Polly Carmichael, who has been in charge of Gids since 2009, would be on the interviewing panel - a decision the BBC understands was later reversed.

Dr Carmichael communicated to Gids staff not to seek external safeguarding advice, an employment tribunal concluded in 2021. During her tenure, the leadership of Gids was also rated as inadequate by healthcare regulator the Care Quality Commission.

Mr Javid, who was health secretary when the decision to close Gids was made following last year's report by Dr Cass, told Newsnight that staff who had been involved in failings at the clinic should not be involved in training people appointed to its replacement.

In a statement he said: "Individuals who oversaw significant failings at the Tavistock should clearly not be managing the set-up of the new system."

He said the approach at Gids was "overly affirmative" and "bordered on the ideological".

Gids has maintained that being respectful of young people's gender identities did not prevent the service from exploring other issues that may affect them.

Current Health Secretary Steve Barclay told the BBC the government would ensure the new service was run in line with the recommendations of the independent Cass review, which "differ significantly" from the services provided by Gids.

He said: "Any suggestion that the recruitment or training of new service providers are not following these recommendations is very concerning and I will work closely with partners to resolve this."

Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust, one of the trusts due to run the new service in London, was in charge of the recent recruitment process.

A spokesperson for the trust said it wanted to recruit a wide range of staff to collectively develop training materials in line with the Cass review recommendations.

"While we appreciate they may hold differing views, there will be strong governance processes in place" to ensure the training aligns with the review's recommendations and the latest evidence, the spokesperson said.

Dr Cass and international experts have been invited to join an oversight group to sign off on the curriculum, Great Ormond Street said.

The BBC understands that the trust will be interviewing further external candidates for the education role and that pre-employment checks are under way for candidates who have been offered roles so far.

A sharp rise in the number of young people presenting with gender issues has led to lengthy waiting times for treatment - a time of great uncertainty and stress for the young people and their families.

One couple, David and Diana, whose names have been changed to protect the privacy of their child, told the BBC their child had already been on the Gids waiting list for 18 months.

Speaking about the new services, David said he felt Gids "shouldn't be anywhere near it".

His partner, Diana, said: "There needs to be proper evidence-based care and real accountability and recordkeeping and aftercare - all of that stuff that's been so sorely lacking."

Children questioning their gender and their families have widely varying views about how care should be provided, with some wanting a cautious approach while others believe there should be faster access to medical interventions.

Gendered Intelligence, a trans-led charity, said it was not for them to question NHS England's approach to staffing, but it wanted more support and better communication for those already receiving treatment or on the waiting list.

"What we want to do is advocate for these young people being looked after better," spokesperson Cleo Madeleine said.

NHS England said: "All aspects of the new children and young people's gender service - from the development of both the interim and final service specification, including staff training, to individual patient care - will be guided by the ongoing findings and expert advice from the Cass Review."

Staff from a gender clinic that was closed following concerns about children’s welfare have been hired to train their replacements at new clinics.

Individuals from the Gender Identity Development Service (GIDS) at The Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust in London are understood to be involved in training staff at two new services.

They are thought to include a senior clinician at GIDS, who said “social justice” underpins their work and who advocates an “affirmative approach” with trans children.

The revelations have alarmed parents, who say their children have been encouraged to seek gender changes by advocates of trans identity.

GIDS is being replaced by two new early adopter services: one in London and the other in north-west England.

It was revealed earlier this year that The Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust would provide support to the new regional centres replacing it, despite serious concerns over treatment.

Investigation and complaints
An investigation by BBC Newsnight discovered that some of the trust’s clinicians were involved in the direct training of cohorts of staff at the new centres. At one stage, a GIDS director was considered for inclusion on the interview panel for the new roles.

The Tavistock clinic, launched more than three decades ago to help children and other young people struggling with their gender identity, was rated “inadequate” following complaints raised by whistleblowers, patients and families.

Doctors voiced concerns that some patients were being referred on to a gender transitioning pathway too quickly.

One parent has criticised the decision to use Tavistock staff to train their replacements, telling Friday night’s edition of Newsnight: “Our daughter started identifying as first non-binary, then as a trans boy during the lockdown. Before that, we’d had no indication that there was anything she was unhappy about.

“I would absolutely advocate for a clean slate in setting them up. Putting anyone who is really in a position of power and leadership back into a position of leadership would be incredibly foolish.”

‘Different service model is needed’
The decision to close GIDS followed a recommendation from Dr Hilary Cass in March last year that a “fundamentally different service model is needed” as part of her official review into the care provided to gender-questioning young people.

Another person understood to have been appointed, who is not employed by GIDS or the trust running it, has openly questioned Dr Cass and NHS England’s more cautious stance on gender changes.

‘Old service system is discredited’
Dr Marcus Evans, a consultant psychotherapist, who resigned from The Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust over its treatment of whistleblowers, told the Telegraph: “There are a lot of parents who are already worried, after Tavistock said it would be involved in advising the new service providers.

“The old service system is discredited. We need a completely different approach that avoids preoccupation with gender to the exclusion of all other facets of the family, child and young person’s personality and development.”

Another parent, called David, said GIDS “shouldn't be anywhere near” the new services.

There are more than 7,500 children and young people with gender incongruence or gender-related distress waiting for help from the NHS.

NHS England said there would be “a number of significant changes” from the service previously provided by GIDS, including that it would be medically led and extend the clinical team to include experts in paediatric medicine, autism, neurodisability and mental health, as well as restricting access to hormone blockers to the context of a formal research protocol.

An NHS spokesperson said: “As part of the transition to a new clinical approach, the NHS is developing a new training framework for clinicians providing care in this field, rather than adopting the old training materials previously used by Tavistock’s GIDS.

“All aspects of the new children and young people’s gender service - from the development of both the interim and final service specification, including staff training to individual patient care - will be guided by the ongoing findings and expert advice from the Cass Review.”

(Edit: Should clarify, the article and expert commentary are new, the systematic review itself is the one that formed the basis for Sweden's decision in 2022 to back away from pediatric transition.)

Their conclusion:

Evidence to assess the effects of hormone treatment on the above fields in children with gender dysphoria are insufficient.

This is mildly stated as is typical of scientific papers, but it means that they found that blockers and hormones are an experimental treatment.

The lead author, Jonas Ludvigsson, said publicly that puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones should only be administered to children if it is part of a clinical trial (ie to gather more information on their effects):

We do not know what the natural trajectory is for these children. Studies should first elucidate to what extent gender dysphoria spontaneously remit in adolescents who have not presented gender incongruent behavior in childhood. If predictors for persistence can be found, the second step would be to conduct clinical trials focusing on potential persisters in order to evaluate the beneficial and adverse effects of hormonal treatments. Importantly, such studies need to follow patients for many years”, says corresponding author Professor Mikael Landén, at Karolinska Institutet and University of Gothenburg. “Against the background of almost non-existent longterm data, we conclude that GnRHa treatment in children with gender dysphoria should be considered experimental treatment rather than standard procedure. This is to say that treatment should only be administered in the context of a clinical trial under informed consent”, he adds.

“We found substantial limitations in earlier research on gender dysphoria, and the few longitudinal observational studies were hampered by small numbers, and high attrition rates”, adds Ludvigsson. “For that reason we created a checklist, the GENDHOR checklist, that we hope will facilitate and increase the quality of future research in this field.”

Oklahoma governor signs ban on gender-affirming care for trans kids​

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Oklahoma on Monday became the latest state to ban gender-affirming medical care for minors as Republican Gov. Kevin Stitt signed a bill that makes it a felony for health care workers to provide children with treatments that can include puberty-blocking drugs and hormones.
Oklahoma joins at least 15 other states with laws banning such care, as conservatives across the country have targeted transgender rights.
Stitt, who was reelected in November, made the ban a priority of this year’s legislative session, saying he wanted to protect children. Transgender advocates and parents of transgender children say such care is essential.
Stitt signed bills last year that prohibit transgender girls and women from playing on female sports teams and prevent transgender children from using school bathrooms that correspond to their gender identity.

The bill Stitt signed on Monday would make it illegal to provide gender-transition medical care for anyone under the age of 18. Such treatment can include surgery as well as hormones and drugs that suppress or delay normal puberty.
Transgender advocates and parents of transgender children say such care is essential.
Several civil liberty organizations, including the American Civil Liberties Union of Oklahoma, has promised to “take any necessary legal action” to prevent the law from taking effect.
“Gender-affirming care is a critical part of helping transgender adolescents succeed, establish healthy relationships with their friends and family, live authentically as themselves, and dream about their futures,” Lambda Legal, the ACLU and the ACLU said in a joint statement.

A doctor with a key role in reforming a controversial gender identity clinic for children has been recorded questioning the need for change.

Prof Gary Butler, clinical lead for the children's gender clinic in England and Wales, also appeared to accuse the author of a report, which will underpin the new service, of "nepotism".

He was recorded making the comments in a keynote speech at a major conference.

When asked about the speech, he said he fully supported plans for new services.

The Gender Identity Development Service (Gids), based at London's Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust, was rated as "inadequate" by inspectors, who visited in late 2020. It was earmarked for closure in July 2022.

An independent review, led by Dr Hilary Cass, also called for a "fundamentally different" model of care for children with gender dysphoria.

Prof Butler has been awarded a key role in shaping the new service, as one of several people tasked with implementing a new training programme, underpinned by Dr Cass's recommendations.

However, BBC Newsnight has learned Prof Butler - the current service's most senior doctor - has publicly questioned the need for change and described Dr Cass's recommendations as "slightly unusual".

In the 14-minute speech at the conference, he talked about current services across the UK, the legal challenges to the situation in England, and how he felt Gids has been the subject of "lies" in the media.

The consultant paediatric endocrinologist at University College London Hospitals (UCLH) told the conference of hundreds of transgender healthcare professionals how the Cass Review had highlighted the need to provide "developmentally appropriate healthcare for children and young people".

"But what on earth are we doing now?" he told the European Professional Association for Transgender Health conference, which was held in Ireland, last month. "It's exactly what we're doing at the present time, and what the Gids is doing."

Speaking about the new proposals, he said instead of expanding gender care, "they've almost contracted it".

In the recording, which was then handed to Newsnight, he was also heard questioning the personal integrity of Dr Cass. He implied there had been, what he referred to as, nepotism around the choice of two hospitals in the south of England as the sites for new clinics - suggesting Dr Cass's previous involvement in them both had been a factor.

NHS England says the two new regional hubs, which will replace Gids, are taking longer than anticipated to set up. They are intended to offer a clean break from the past.

But referring to the hospitals, which will form these new hubs, Prof Butler appeared to question the need for a more diverse workforce, telling the conference that none of the staff had "any experience of management of gender incongruence in young people". He added: "It's shocking."

In his role at UCLH, Prof Butler is responsible for prescribing medication including puberty blockers and hormones to young people who have been assessed by Gids as suitable for such treatments.

Gids will now remain open until at least March 2024. Meanwhile, there are more than 8,000 young people currently waiting for care.

In a statement, Prof Butler said Newsnight's reporting of his comments were "highly selective" and that his views were made as part of a wider presentation on gender identity services in the UK. "I wish to make clear that I fully support Dr Hilary Cass's recommendations to develop new services for young people experiencing gender dysphoria," he added.

The Cass Review team said, while it accepts that people hold different views on how services should develop, there was "general consensus that the current model, within a single specialist gender service, cannot provide timely, holistic care for the mix of children and young people seeking support".

It said Dr Cass did not select which hospitals would form the new regional centres, saying accusations to the contrary were "baseless".

While Gids has helped some young people, critics - including young trans people seen by the clinic - claim it was sometimes too quick to refer young people for medical interventions and it could overlook mental health difficulties.

"They push the drugs on you so early on," Em, a 19-year-old trans man, who has identified as male since early childhood, told Newsnight. Em says he was offered medication during his second appointment, adding: "I was 11."

After five appointments, Gids referred Em to UCLH for puberty blockers. These were prescribed by Prof Butler when Em was 12. He stayed on them for nearly four years.

While the blockers slowed Em's puberty, they didn't stop it. He was put on higher doses and, when that did not work, he was administered beta blockers. Em later collapsed at school.

"To me that was dangerous", Em's mother told Newsnight. Em suffered violent mood swings and gained lots of weight while on the blockers.

He stopped taking puberty blockers in 2019 and hasn't chosen to take hormones to masculinise his body. Since being discharged in 2020, neither Gids nor UCLH has been in touch with Em.

"I feel completely forgotten about," he says now. "I still don't know what is happening with my body [or] what the blockers did."

The NHS says little is known about the long-term side effects of puberty blockers in children with gender dysphoria. Dr Cass has insisted there needs to be more research.

Both the NHS and Dr Cass have made it clear that staff at the new gender identity services for children must have wider experience of working with young people - including expertise in autism, mental health and safeguarding.

'I was a child'
Em says the new services must be different. "The new system needs to be a mental health service," he says, and offer more holistic care for trans people. "For them, you weren't transgender unless you're willing to go the full way [in medically transitioning]. I was a child. I did not know what I was doing."

In a statement, the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust said it had reviewed Newsnight's claims, adding that they "do not align with the evidence we have", though it declined to give specifics about that evidence.

It said it works on a case-by-case basis with every young person, their family and local services, but said it was inappropriate to comment on Em's individual patient care.

"Patients who begin medical treatment do so only after they've been fully assessed (including mental health), and only if the parent/carer is supportive," the trust added.

A UCLH spokesman also said it would be inappropriate to comment on an individual patient's care, but added that Gids clinicians "discuss non-medical interventions with patients before and after referral to our endocrinology clinic".

"Patients only begin medical treatment if they are assessed as having full competence to consent and there is parental support," UCLH said, adding that the clinic follows the service specification set out by NHS England.

NHS England, which commissions children's gender identity services, said all aspects of the new service would be guided by the ongoing findings and expert advice from the Cass Review.

A spokesperson for the Department of Health and Social Care agreed, adding that an oversight group will ensure training is in line with the new clinical approach.

For context, Gary Butler was in charge of prescribing puberty blockers (at UCLH) to the children seen by GIDS. The trans-identified female "Em" in the BBC story appears in Hannah Barnes's book about GIDS, Time to Think, as "Jacob".

UK: Trans Activists Stage Piss-Filled Protest In Front of London’s Equality And Human Rights Commission - Reduxx (archive)​

Trans activists in London staged a urine-filled protest outside of the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) on Monday in response to proposed alterations to the Equality Act which would strengthen women’s sex-based rights.

Members of the organization Pissed Off Trannies (POT) gathered outside of the EHRC on May 22 to leave 90 liters of human urine around the perimeter of the building. The protest was in response to a recent statement by chief executive of the EHRC, Melanie Field, in which she affirmed the definition of “sex.”

The statements by Field were made during an interview with Transactual, a trans activist organization headed by trans-identified male Helen Belcher. Belcher pressed Field on the definition of “biological sex,” to which Field responded it was the “sex recorded at birth.”

Field’s comment reflects a slow-moving trend at the EHRC to implement stronger protections for biological sex as a protected characteristic, as well as recent plans to prevent trans-identified males from accessing women’s facilities unless they have a Gender Recognition Certificate (GRC).

GRCs are documents which legally recognize a person’s transgender identity in the United Kingdom. The bar for acquiring one is not particularly high, having two primary requirements of a gender dysphoria diagnosis, and the individual having “lived” as their “preferred gender” for at 2 years. The fee is nominal at £5, but it can be waived entirely for low-income people.

The proposals have been met with extreme backlash by trans activists, who have branded the EHRC’s attempts to consider further protections for women as “anti-trans bias.”

This Monday, masked POT trans activists gathered outside of the EHRC office to leave bottles of human urine in protest of the considerations. The activists also poured the bottles of piss on the sidewalks.

POT posted an artistic video of the demonstration to their Instagram, featuring close-up shots of the bottles of urine with audio and transcription of Field’s interview with Transactual superimposed over the scenes.

“We placed 90 liters of trans piss outside the building and in their revolving doors, rendering the EHRC more explicitly what it already was: an inaccessible mess,” Pot wrote in the description of the video.

“Pouring piss is an anarchist act of resistance that stakes an urgent and lingering claim on our basic human rights … If you take away our toilets we will make one on your doorstep.”

This is not the first time POT has staged a piss-filled protest outside of the EHRC in London.

In September of 2022, POT activists similarly left jugs of human urine around the office’s doorstep, with one masked activist pouring one bottle on himself.

While the initial exclusive coverage by VICE did not publish the names of the activists involved, allowing them to remain anonymous, it was later revealed that the primary organizer for POT is an artist who has contributed to VICE in the past.

Jamie Cottle is a trans-identified male from Reading, England, who studied English at University College London. Cottle uses the moniker “Biogal” on social media. After staging his first protest outside of the EHRC last year, Cottle boasted about his actions on Instagram.

Cottle regularly hosts disturbing “performances” he claims are demonstrations of trans activism.

In one performance from 2022, simply titled “FISH,” Cottle strips while slapping himself with a dead fish. In another from that same year, titled “Prayer for the Pearl Oyster,” Cottle is seen wearing women’s underwear, transparent platform heels, and a pearl necklace. He rips fabric, tosses about oysters, and screams while stomping on the shells. Cottle then begins writhing, strips naked, and removes a sex toy from his anus.

In addition to providing words in a VICE article on “trans joy,” last year Cottle contributed to a piece published in the Italian edition of Vogue magazine.

Titled “The Hairy Boundaries of My Womanhood,” the article asserts that “trans women and non-binary femmes” should find “new ways to express their genders through facial hair,” while drawing a parallel between “dyke movements and women with PCOS” to biological males who claim a female identity.

“When covering my moustache, I experience security from the notion of passing but deal with the dangers of catcalling,” Cottle told Vogue. “When I choose not to cover up, I signal to the world my radical position on gender and resistance to the male gaze.”

In a photo posted to his Instagram account in October 2020, Cottle can be seen licking a knife in a threatening fashion. Behind him were images of Member of Parliament Liz Truss, and a man who appears to resemble former First Secretary of State Dominic Raab. The image is titled “Target Practice.”

In a similarly menacing image, Cottle was photographed in a skin-tight dress holding a sign that reads, “The streets will flow with tranny piss and Tory blood.”

In an interview with Era Journal, the University College of London’s Arts and Culture publication, Cottle acknowledges his admiration for a US-based trans-identified male called Río Sofia, who has made bondage and forced feminization pornography of himself as part of his academic studies at Cooper Union College. In 2020, Sofia presented his self-made pornography during a lecture for Princeton University.

One of Cottle’s performances appears to have been influenced by Sofia, who, during his presentation for Princeton, boasted of stripping down to nothing but “lucite-looking heels” and exposing himself to the then-president of Cooper Union, in an attempt to spark provocation.

Cottle also recently assisted with a fundraiser for his girlfriend’s double mastectomy. Jasmine, 22, a female who identifies as a man, stated on her GoFundMe page that she was “on the GenderCare pathway” due to being “exhausted [with] having to endure my body being sexualized in a way that feels so foreign to me.”

In 2021, Cottle was a member of the Queer Heritage and Collections Network Steering Group and a listed speaker at their taxpayer-funded symposium. The symposium featured prominent UK artists sharing “knowledge, skills, expertise and best practice regarding national and regional heritage sites and collections working with LGBTQ+ histories,” and was held in partnership with the national Art Fund.

Cottle was presented as being associated with English Heritage, a major charity that manages over 400 historic monuments, buildings and places in the United Kingdom.

While Cottle has put his Instagram on private, his biography does claim he will be appearing at the Tate Britain, a historic art gallery in central London, on June 10.
