6-year-old shoots teacher at Virginia elementary school

A teacher was injured in a shooting Jan. 6, 2023, at Richneck Elementary School in Newport News, Virginia, according to police and school officials.

A 6-year-old student shot a teacher during an altercation at a Virginia elementary school on Friday, police said. No students were injured in the incident at Richneck Elementary School, Newport News police said in a statement.

"This was not an accidental shooting," Police Chief Steve Drew told reporters during an evening press conference.

The chief said the teacher, a woman in her 30s, suffered what he described as a life-threatening gunshot wound and was taken to a hospital.

The boy was taken into custody, the chief said. No one else was involved in the incident, he said. "We have been in contact with our commonwealth attorney and some other entities to help us best get services to this young man," Drew said.

The chief said a handgun was used in the altercation and he wanted to know where it came from.

The shooting was isolated to a classroom at the school, Drew said.

"This was not a situation where we had a student, or any other individuals, going up and down the halls actively firing in a long shooting incident," Drew said.

Mayor Phillip Jones said the incident "hurts my heart."

"It's a dark day for Newport News," Jones said. "We're going to learn from this, and we're going to come back stronger."

The school district had said parents and guardians could pick up children at the school's gym.

"No! I will not do your stupid homework!"

Jokes aside, interesting that this is no usual school shooting. A single teacher, no one else injuried, no talk of the kid doing anything else, and of course the age... Could be there is some real funky background here.

Placing my bet. Black kid upset that his teacher called his house for misbehaving and caught a whoopin for it.

Before you call me racist. If the story was about him opening fire on his class and killing indiscriminately then I would have said white kid.
However he did hit the teacher, and from the sounds of it in one shot.

I'm betting crazy Asian. A Jap or Korean, something like that.

Maybe I’m overprotective but I have a 7 year old son and automatically check his school bag every day, not for weapons, we don’t have them here, but to check that a) he’s got everything he needs and b) he’s not trying to sneak in stuff like his Switch that he’s not allowed to take into school.

Parents should be charged with manslaughter and neglect. Checking your kid’s bag takes 1 minute and why was he able to access their firearms?

A 6 year old nigglet only opens fire on the public school teacher.

hmmmm something tells me there might've been some consensual butt play involved long enough for the kid to finally take the matters into his own hands.

This reeks of the unsecured firearm at the latino kids bday party last year. A brother/uncle left dey gat layin' 'round and its a tragedy that will keep happening since the (mostly lib ran haha) system likes destroying the black/latino american nuclear family.

Just imagine the utter shitshow this would turn into if the kid shot the teacher because they pulled some pronoun shit on him or tried to convince him he was a girl/told him to hide some troon groomer shit from his parents. or because he was being forced to go to see some drag story hour

On that note, imagine the even bigger shitshow if the kid was taken to one of those drag story hours and shot the troon doing it because the kid found the whole thing creepy and uncomfortable

The media falling over itself to twist that one around and the inevitable parents asking just what the fuck was going on with whatever the schools are doing with their kids to provoke such an incident would be very interesting to see

That said, this was clearly personal and done for a specific reason. He didn't go there to shoot the place up, just to shoot that one teacher. There had to be a reason for it. It should be interesting to see what that turns out to be
