In extreme cases with obvious physical abuse I'm sure many vets do, but the reality is that in impoverished areas especially this kind of neglect is common. They wouldn't be able to prove Gomez has been showing symptoms for months beforehand unless she told them. They wouldn't be able to prove his living conditions either. Unfortunately the cost of being sued if the vet ends up being wrong prevents them from intervening.

I am too, I'm most anxious to see what happens with twitter cat ladies viewing this. A good yeast joke is also uplifting. Animal suffering makes me as angry as the next animal lover, but there's nothing I can do about it and I'm able to shut it out when I'm not looking at the thread. There are multiple episodes of Hoarders where the cleanup happened because the hoarder needed an operation (one particular case was open heart surgery) and they were not allowed to go home because home was so toxic that it would easily kill them. Given how filthy and festered Polissa's home is (and the trailer not much better), Gomez would absolutely get sick and stay that way while Polly begged for antibiotics only to spend what she received on weed.

I guess Gomez really isn't going to make it to 2023 (or does, by the skin of his teeth).

I can't imagine having no real critical thinking whatsoever. Her reading comprehension is bad enough. She's shown multiple times before as well that she does not do any actual research or think "hey, this sounds fishy." The rare times she does, she gets some answer that sounds bullshit but it has "big words" so it sounds legit to her.

It's possible that it's pro bono. That's more common in poorer areas. We know just as well as Polissa does since she's not asking the important questions. Regardless, she's still begging and judging us (the reader) for not throwing money at her or the vet. Yeah, no.
