There's a difference between thinking tumblr SJWs are a fucking nuisance and a threat to certain things, like free speech on particularly poorly run campuses and the few places they actually have some power, and thinking they're an enormous, monolithic octopus that is literally taking over the entire world. The latter people believe that anyone who isn't currently in a Nazi uniform saluting Hitler is an SJW.

Freedom of speech is mostly safe in the US, at least in terms of the government being prohibited from punishing people for saying things that it doesn't like. A couple of weeks ago, a professor of mine said that the people who claim to worry about "freedom of speech" and "political correctness" are actually concerned about the culture of critical discourse coming under fire. I tend to agree with him on that, and while I find many current attitudes toward it downright horrifying, this is mainly a societal issue rather than a governance issue, although it could become one in the future if those attitudes keep gaining ground.
